How serious and distinctive an upgrade is the 595 from the 555? And what is a decent canalphone/IEM that has similar sound qualities as the 555/595?

Oh dear, perhaps I'm completely on the wrong track. I've been considering picking up a K-501 to perhaps replace my HD595 with. With my rig the upper mids sound noticeably grainy on my HD595 (but much better than without the amp), and so I was hoping to have better luck with the sweet midrange of the K-501 I keep reading about.

How would you compare the two?

Yep, I remember back when I was looking through the Head-Fi archives on HD595 threads, and half the posts were you saying how much you loved them. Then when I found out you had sold them I was like wahhh?

I see you got some hd650's. Are you enjoying those more than 595's?. I'm thinking of buying some new cans (currently have 595).

What don't you like about the 595? From what I've read, the 650s are quite laid back in comparison, and have a much bigger emphasis on bass

The HD650 are better, period. They can amaze you. But yes, also different. That's why I want the HD595 back, too.

No, properly (not saying expensively ) amped the HD650 doesn't have so much more emphasis on bass than the HD595. I've never had a problem with the HD650's bass, never thought it exaggerated (not really...), just... full, more often than not a great feat for me. And I listen to acoustic singer-songwriters

My only slight complaint about the HD650 is that it can sometimes lack a bit of... passion, as if it was too, well, precise. And this precisely has kept me from looking at other brands like AKG

It's an apartmeent building.. you NEVER leave any packages out in the open where just anyone can walk in and maybe steal it. That said, why didn't you get HD580s?

Actually, a great way to improve the Audigy 2 ZS is to couple it with a PA2V2. I have my computer speakers running via the PA2V2 and the Audigy 2 Zs plugged into the PA2V2 and it sounds so good. Really opens up the sound. The sound is no longer so dark and dull.

I love mine.It's a shame some wont give these a chance since they take so long to burn in but when they do they sound fantastic.
