Not 5, but 4 that were in the Xmas stockings yesterday. In increasing order of preference:
AC/DC - Iron Man 2 Soundtrack. A very nice compilation alternating between Brian Johnson and Bon Scott songs.
AC/DC - Rock or Bust. Damn, the old dudes can still rock hard. After "Black Ice" I thought they should have retired, but here they come and bounce back with this gem. There isn't a bad song on this CD.
Pink Floyd - The Endless River. Love the rhythmic and harmonic references to their older stuff like A Saucerful of Secrets or A Momentary Lapse of Reason. The song "Louder Than Words" I thought a little weak when I heard it by itself, but as a conclusion to this great hour of instrumental music, it fits perfectly.
Stéphanie Lapointe - Les amours parallèles. Critically acclaimed in my home province of Quebec, this album has Lapointe assuming the typical female French singing style which has been in vogue since Gainsbourg - and she does it better than I ever heard anyone do it. The voice is hair thin and on the verge of breaking at all times - yet reveals a stunning palette of colours, and gives the lyrics the immediacy they deserve. Hauntingly beautiful.
