How are the edges around the amp? They look alittle "sharp" and prone to intense scratching if you travel with it alot. Do you think that's the situation? Or is the casing really rugged?

well,I got the amp,too.Because I was very busy all day,therefore I just tried the er4p.The source was sony pcdp d335,I used strigtwire min-rca cable.

I thought ae-1 improved the sound performance of my setup a lot.And yes,it provided a smooth,warm sound.Most important it increased a lot bass impact,and made the music more detailed to be heared.Actually the soundstage became more 3D,too.Although I just listened to it for 30 mins,which meant it's not a faurly review.But I could say that it did improve the performance of er4p a lot,it's no doubt.

I will try my hd600 later,hope ae-1 could drive it well,too.

Sounds alot like the SR-71 to me, gpalmer you should check your mailbox to do a comparison!

I haven't heard of sr71 before,in fact,this is my first time to hear some amp which are made in USA.(I came from Taiwan).Anyway,I am so satified with ae-1.Plus,the size and weight are out of my imagination.It's much smaller than the image we might have in our mind after seeing the picture on headamp.I won't believe the picture anymore

just stuck it in my pocket it fits fine,

though yes, if you sit down the edges will stick out, but the endges dont poke you leg, since the amp sits flush with your leg. no poking here.

so if youre worried about a square bulge that is visible when you sit, then theres nothing you can do, thats the case with all amps.

regarding the case,
its a solid block, cant get any solid then that, all the sides are flush its just a block. Minimalistic design. the outputs are the BEST position Ive seen on any portable, every portable Ive seen, has the inputs/outputs next to each other which will have issues with connections.

Connectors like switch craft have long barrels, this leaves no movement flexibility and difficult to prop on a level surface, since the output is next to the input on most designs on a relatively small area, this causes the connectors to remain static.

one of my urks with the super mini moy was that I didnt have any allowable movement with right angle connectors because the input is dead center between the output and volume knob.

this layout is far superior over the regular layout. Im sure most know what Im talking about. there is also very much room between the jacks and the volume knob, so no cramming here and the volume is still accessible with both jacks being used simultaneously.

Seems like I'd be satisfied with it too. Are you using it with the ER4P-->S adaptor?

so two members have confirmed this is a warm amp,

this may be a big contendor with the sr-71

did some more tests and the black ground was pure black with my 30 ohm grados, and paused my player, and turned the knob the farthest it would go,

NO HISS WHATSOEVER.

this isnt inky black background, this is non-existant background noise you cant color something that isnt there.
