Way back on page 49 in this thread, when I put up this image of slow cooked beef shanks.
Sometimes a photo doesn't portray the satisfaction awaiting in the food.

I agree, food photography can betray the eyes, not necessarily the taste of the food.

Presentation is a skill unto itself that harbors imagination, creativity and best practices.

Look at this old food ad,what were they thinking?

Agree!

I'm fine with the looks, as long as its yummy.

I find a lot of my friends always go by how the food looks, even if it doesn't taste as good.

All I had at the ready was my iPhone camera, the light from an incandescent bulb, and a healthy appetite.

For the sake of comparison, this photo was taken with the same iPhone camera at 9:30 PM in the Amsterdam twilight. It was a plate of beef ribs in Chinese black vinegar, with risotto and bok choy. Presentation by  Restaurant Pastini.

I don't eat with my eye's all that much since I'm half blind! I know enough to please my Chefs [one of whom is a Visual guy 100, that being said that looks mighty tasty, did they braise that beef in black vinegar based liquid <3

But my point is the BEST FOOD I've EVER eaten has usually been plated very simply as that is! I mostly look at the colors it self, bright an contrast indicates it wasn't over cooked. Dull and grey is a bad sign, beyound that I could care less...

here, some Caprese salad for u guys, [I didn't plate it and sadly it's lacking a balsamic reduction] but lol it was TASTY!

My burnt ends alarm went off!  Those look pretty sweet!

Been a few weeks since I've had some from my favorite place here.  Hmmm, I'll have to work on that.
