Because of the buttons. The "SR225" buttons are known to improve the bass response. John Grado does not accept to sell these buttons separately, in order to keep the SR125 on the market.

I will take this as a joke.....you make me tempted to call John ask ask him....not that I would have a problem doing that.

I don't even remember what catalogue it was, but it mentioned the difference between the SR-60 and SR-80's was the cable and the pads.

The SR-80 has the bowls and a separate ground wire for each driver (so 4 wires up to the Y, then two going up each side).

The SR-60 has the comfies and just splits the single ground wire (so 3 wires up to the Y, then either they split the ground into two from there up, or splice two wires into that single one).

Whether this is true or makes a difference I have no idea. I know Audio Advisor says that the driver housing on the SR-60 is smaller than the rest at 2.5", but I think that is incorrect information, as someone would have seen the size difference between the two.

May be true, 'coz I doubt if any of the High-End headfiers ever bother to operate on the SR60s and SR80s. They are pretty cheap and mostly not worth tampering with and as of others in my league, its still a significant investment & I wouldn't rip it open unless I know exactly what to expect and how go about it. Anyway, after owning both, I can say that I was very happy with the upgrade. The Sharp highs of the SR60 is attenuated making it ever more relaxing and non-fatiguing and also has more bass. I have not really listened to them much unamped, but many here claim they work just perfect.

IIRC, the SR225 drivers are better matched than the SR125 drivers. I actually, at one point, replaced my 125 grille with aluminum screening, and didn't notice much of a difference (maybe there was a small one, but I don't remember and it wouldn't be easy to A/B anyway). In fact, I believe I noticed a difference in the bass response (more bass) when I took out most of the fabric material from the back of the drivers - damping material perhaps? /tangent
