SR60/80

OKay, I will be getting either the SR60, for $65 or SR80 for $78, My setup will be
SR80/60>PA2V2>Docked iPod for home use, and portable dock for portable use. Which headphone do you think is the better deal in this situation. (Also MAY get MS1 for $100 but would rather not. Only if they would be MUCH better.)

The SR60's are great and more agreeable for most.

Some people find the SR80's highs a bit too etchy sounding, that's why you need a good amp to clean up the highs. If you want, you can always buy the extra bowl pads later and mount them on the SR60's which gives you the same sound as the SR80's (the pads are the only difference)

where does it say sr80 and sr60 share the same driver? I would luv to see some backup text.

This is a common knowledge. People have taken them apart. SR60 and SR80's are identical except for the pads. The difference in pads really changes the sound, which is why you'll see so many posts on how different pads affect the sound

Grado SR125's and SR225's share the same driver also (basically SR80/SR60 drivers with higher quality wire). But the SR225 has a different backing plate.

?? geez according to your logic:

Because most people believed earth is square therfore earth MUST BE square

or

This product is awsome because everyone at school said so. (similar error as your logic

This question was asked many times, and it's no secret. Grado doesn't say so explicitly that they are the same, but it's also implied by their own descriptions.

Built on the same features as the SR60, but utilizes a 4 conductor connecting cable and larger ear cushions, the result of which gives a more open stage.
Don't you think they would mention improved drivers if there were some? Instead they make a big deal out of the ear cushions.

Grado would love it if you accidentally believed there was some magic material they utilize in higher models, but in reality, the difference between my $200 SR225 and the $70 SR60 is probably about $20 in raw parts.

I never said you are wrong...but I can't say you are right either with John keeping his mouth shut. But what they do with that $20 makes a real and audiable difference. I was just merely pointing out the error in your statement..

The same can be said about Sr-71..probably less than $20 in parts as well...(you can buy opamps real cheap in bulk)..hifi is a high margin low volume business.

It doesn't have to be spelled out. Their description basically admits it. Like Lexus not saying outright that their engines are the same as the one in Toyotas. But we all know the truth.

People have been tinkering/modding/taking apart/measuring/listening/reviewing the SR60 and SR80 and rest of the Grado family for more than a decade now. There is no dispute about this. If there is anybody left that really believes that they may be different, I've got some cheap Florida land to sell you.

I never said that $20 in parts doesn't make a difference, but you have to realistic about what you are getting.

from my understanding the cables are different too.

If the only difference were the pads, then back in the days when both 60s and 80s had flat pads, they would have sounded exactly the same. But they didn't. The comfy and bowl pads are fairly recent developments.

Surely there are additional differences between the two models besides the pads.

Having been in your situation a while back and choosing the SR-80, I wish now I had gone with the MS-1. That said, I still love the SR-80 and will only now upgrade to the 225.

It's interesting, because on the site it says the SR-225 is just an SR-125 with a metal screen. Do you believe that?

edit: And oh yeah, new SR-325i update!!!

Yes I do. But it makes a big difference (changes the bass noticeably), and is worth the difference in price.
