Hello, I've been using my Sony V6 headphones for a couple of years now, and have decided that I want to try something new. I was wondering what would be the better choice, grab a pair of MS-1s or buying a new amp, something like the headroom airhead portables. I've been mainly using the V6 out of my DAP, and have never owned a headphone amp before so I'm pretty clueless as to what would I should do. Would upgrading to the MS-1 be worth it, or would buying an amp yield greater improvement in listening quality? Thanks.

All I have to say is that their awesome pair of headphones. Great sound stage, vocals are a bit too strong, you can feel the bass other than hearing it, and great for movies. Comfort is 4.5...

I know people bash on Bose because of they're over priced and I agree. I believe these retail for about $150 or so and I paid $85 for these due to employee discount at where I work. With that...

I think you would benefit much more from a new sound than marginally improving a headphone which you are trying to replace.
I'd go for revolutionary changes, not evolutionary ones.

Cool, I was leaning towards getting a new pair of headphones, so I'll probably go with the MS-1s. And maybe down the line I'll get an amp too. Thanks a lot.

An amp ( at least in that pricerange ) wont change the sound that much, somewhat faster and more distinct bass and some coloration perhaps, depending on op amp etc, I'd go for a new pair of cans ( this is from my experience with my pimeta with my 7506 )

Coming from a person that has listened to MS-1 and V6 I would definitely go with the MS-1. It really is an amazing headphone that doesnt require an amp. The v6 was just to flat and boring for me and that resonance at 3200Hz got really annoying. I'm not saying the V6 is a bad headphone but it was not for me. I then bought the MS1 and I have never regretted it whatsoever. The sound that comes out of the MS1 is so much fun and exciting. The electric guitar has never sounded so great
Anyway, I highly recommend the MS1

If you like the V6 sound and just want to "refine" that basic tone then amp it. IMHO V6 bass resonates a little lower with a high current amp.
If youre after something different all-together than go with the MS1.

Get the MS-1 and flat pads. With time, you'll be happier, trust me. Grados are much more refined in sound, and at the same time that they may sound boring because they have less bass, you will notice that they are actually much more dynamic and punchy.
