Too late to go back?

as i entered the world of high end audio gear, i eagerly jumped on the band wagon. i first started out getting the sony EX51's, which i loved for the bass on the go. then i had the sony D66SL eggos, which im currently trying to sell on ebay, when i got them, i was so shocked that they had absolutly no bass at all. i was too used to my subwoofer played at max volume. after that sad experience, i went for a pair of headphones around my budget that would pump out enough bass for me. i got it. the senny's hd212pros. although for me they require a crap load of eq'ings to get the amount of bass i need they were the best things i could get. now, i wish i started off "properly". meaning, i wish i asked around more first and got something more entry like the SR60's. now im thinking, maybe i should try going back. but now that i know im a big basshead, and i have a huge expectancy on bass from headphones, im afraid ill just get another pair of headphones that wont satisfy my needs. but would it hurt to get a pair of SR60's? then move up?

the beyerdynamic dt770 will probaby give you the most bass, but they will be quite a bit above your price range.
I had the SR60s for about 2 weeks, but not my cup of tea - I'm not big into how forward they sounded, but they were amazing for the price. They had nice bass, but wouldn't say they are for bassheads.
Try to go to a hifi store around you and audition a couple or maybe make it to a meet. You'll find what you like without wasting a lot of money, because everybody values something different in their cans.

Grados have bass but little impact--- i.e. you hear the bass but you don't *feel* them (at least, not much). If you like bass, I suggest the DT880. It has impactful bass and very prominent highs if you like the Grado sound. If you think Grados are too bright then go with Sennheisers. I can't say about Alessandros... my understanding is that they're rebranded Grados, so I suppose the bass would sound the same.

If you're on a limited budget then I say don't get the SR60 if you're expecting powerful bass. You'll be disappointed and you'll just have one more item to sell on ebay. Save your money for a rainy day instead and get the proper headphone when that rainy day comes.

An alternative you might consider to the DT770 is the open version, the DT990. Amazon.com has them for around $159. They have bass. Need an amp.

I've been there before. I used to be a big , until I got myself a pair of Sony MDR-V6's (remember, that was before the MDR-V600 even came out). Now that I am so used to realistic bass response (a bunch of "good" headphones later), I can NEVER go back to being a big again!

Your experiences have been pretty similar to mine, I used to be a big bass fan until I started listening to my d66 eggos, some headphones later I find myself not really wanting ultra bassy cans (although I still do enjoy nice home setups/car setups) I doubt I can ever go back; at least your purchases were all in the sub $100 range. The sr60's are fairly cheap, have great bass (to my ears). They also don't need amping to sound great which is always a plus. If you want bass but have the money you should go dt770.

My advice is to force yourself to listen to your music with the EQ off. Do this for several weeks and do not be tempted to turn up the EQ. I think you will come around. When I got an ipod the EQ was so bad I could not use it. Slowly but surly I grew to like the un-eq-ed sound. Now I would hate to have it on and love good tonal balance.

It's very true! I got used to the ultra digital boomy sound from a pervious MP3 player. Later when I got an Ipod mini, everything is so calm and quiet. It is at that point I realize that music should be balanced. I begin to hear that some detail aren't there with different phones. Hence why I went from the MD33 to E4 jump

Or you could slowly turn your EQ down .. maybe 1 dB per few days? Or if you want to rapid detox, get a pair of AKG K501's.

lol, same thing I did a while back. I used to turn up the EQ a while back with my old iRiver flash player, but I started to turn the EQ off more and more, until I couldn't stand listening to music with major EQ settings.

It is funny around here how everyone thinks the same way............anyone else have a very good sub woofer collecting dust? I kept turning it down because I did not like the boomy bass and finally I just turned it off.

I don't think SR60's would be what you're after.

basshead, just take the plunge

Every basshead will end up with a dynamight and PS1 eventually, may as well save yourself some time and start saving now.

That is a very good combination, indeed.

I'd say save for the Beyer DT770 pro's over the SR60's - Sure, they produce bass... but if you're looking for that experience without any EQing the 770's are the can you seek
