Etymotic 6i - Filter changing how often required?

Hi

I'm a new 6i user (from Sony's EX71) and i like them (but i miss the bass a bit)

But the reason for this thread is that i'm flying on vacation for 3 weeks next month.
Do I need to take the replacement filters with me?

Questions put general: How often is filter changing required?

If your ears are pretty clean, they may easily last 6-12 months.

I noticed a level-difference between the channels when I came home, checked and saw the left filter had turned from green to yellow, and replaced both filters.
The yellow filter was smoldering when touched, obviously the dampness had gotten to it!
So my answer is: If the filters (or tube wherein the filter is situated) is not exposed to dirt, wax or moisture, they will last possibly forever!
and i'm about to fly to Guangzhou, HongKong and Shanghai

how did you treat yours in Asia?

I clean my ears with Q tips at least every few days, but try to do this everytime before inserting my Etymotics.

Also, I take a small jeweler's screwdriver and insert in the tube that goes into the driver, and clean the tube out. It is wax that goes inside this tube that clogs the filter.

I only change a filter when I lose the sound in one channel.

I have not changed mine since I got them around 4 months ago. Keep your ears clean and you will be fine. I use Murine for wax removal chores.

I've had mine for almost a year, and I changed them after about 6 months.
I also try to keep my ears very clean and use the stuff you can get from
your local pharmacy. (Dont use Q-Tips)

Even with good aural hygine, you'll still want to change them regularly, but
you should get at least 6 months out of a pair unless you have a lot of wax
issues. Also, keep them away from moisture. It will kill the filters.

When they're wet, it will pretty much block all sound. After they dry out it
will sound "normal" Once you change them to new filters, you'll realized that
they weren't good after getting wet.

good luck

3 pairs for $15 at www.headphone.com Kind of pricey but not too bad if you change them every 6-12 months or so. I think they can be found cheaper too.
