Amazing Deal--Athena AS-B1 for $99 a pair!

Athena's Audition series speakers have been updated to series 2, but everything looks the same to me. The discontinued AS-B1 is now on sale at Audio Advisor for $99 PER PAIR!

And we are taliking about speakers that won Soudstage's reviewer's choice award:

If there is any audio magazine that is more enthusiastic or knowledgeable about bookshelf speakers than Soudstage, I have yet to seen one.

Now pair this with a Sonic Impact T-amp, the deal becomes insane
I recently compared T-amp (unmodded, driven by big SLA battery) to two highly-regarded, EL84-based tube amps around $900 on my Athena S2/P2, and it is as good as both amps. I don't how much one has to spend to get better "first 5 watts" than the T-amp, but my answer would be well over $1000. T-amp with car booster battery or 13V regualted PSU would cost less than $70 total.

You mean like this?

OK, those speakers are the B2's but they are on sale as well.

That is really tempting, i'm not sure it would be a big enough difference from my 89db Polk R10s though. I think I'll just keep saving for Omega Super 3s.

about 2 years ago audio advisor was clearing out Veritas bookshelf speakers at an insane price, i think they were like $500 for $1500 speakers.

I remember that. Out here in California, Energy's C-series was getting cleared by the local chain dealer, the Good Guys. I picked up a brand-new pair of C-3 monitors for $300.00 (regular $500.00/pair). Of course, the Veritas are better deal if one can swing the extra $$$.

Anyway, the Athena speakers are a great deal.

Home Surround

Could these work well as left/right channels for a home surround set up??

Yes, but probably only good for a small room. Otherwise, they should be great for HT.

This probably means they are gonna come out with a newer model soon. They did a similar thing with the F2s and PS-Audio Cables.

They already have - AS-B1.2 and AS-B2.2 are replacements for AS-B1 and AS-B2. I believe their floor standing models have been updated as well.

Best Buy had these for 99 a month ago. (think there out now). I went and all they had was the demos. sold them to me for 80. Sound great and pair very well with the T-amp.

Hey guys,

Totally new to this speaker thing.

I'm looking at getting some CBM-170's new.

Are these better?

Thanks,
JP.
I have a pair of CBM-170s at work and my brother has some Athenas. Both brands sound very nice and detailed but I have not compaired both brands of speakers on the same system.I would recommend getting the AS-B2 with the larger woofer. To be honest I can't justify the extra money for the Ascend speakers because they seem so equal in quality.

Athena AS-B2

These are $149. Better than the B1's?

Also where can I get a T-Amp from??

I'm looking at getting a budget speaker setup. Is this combo the way to go?

Cheers,
Jp

Try this site: http://www.electronicexpress.com/product?prod_id=3594
I'm NOT sure if this site is reputable. Anyone??? That's a killer deal. I guess that's for each.
