Just bought the Doge 6210 amp and few replacement tubes from Dr. Wells. The amp is in excellent condition and brand new with very fast shipment. Some of you may not agree with him about tube vs. solid amps opinion but I can only attest that his intention was to help some others to get great sound at very reasonably priced equipments. I can't imagine he is doing this type of service for profit but his desire to share some of his great budget tube amps. There is no question that I will do any future business with him. Thanks.

Arthur Wells is responsible for the most frustrating and dishonest sale I have ever had on head-fi. I purchased a Doge 6210 heapamp for $375 shipped. The first unit I received had a faulty impedence switch, the stock power tubes arched and the amp would not give a normal output volume. I had to turn the amp to 3:-4 o'clock for my normal listening volume. At this setting the music would heavily distort when any bass line or low frequency was present. I called him and he had a second amp. I shipped the FIRST amp @ my cost of $25 back to him. I received the second amp about four days later.

The second amp did not sit level, there was a static hum present at any level with low to medium impedence headphones and the same volume issue. He claimed I had bad tubes even though I had the tubes he sent, three pair of tested nos 6BQ5's, nos Tung Sol 12ax7's and EH new production 12ax7's. I again contacted him and that is when the excuses began.

I was accused of lying .... he claimed the amp was fine. He stated I just bought the amp to say it was bad. confused: He was mad I posted the amp did not work. Well, this was the second amp that did not work with the same issue and I am free to post whatever I like regarding my amp.

Once I posted I received an arrogant and accusatory pm soon after I called him with Art deciding to change our terms. At this point he changed the refund amount. I rejected his bogus new terms and he countered refusing any refund claiming I violated our agreement which I dont not. He was requiring I listen to a faulty amp and I was considering doing so even though I had no doubt a different set of tubes would not fix anything. But when I got his arrogant, accusatory email I decide to stop right then.

This listening was never a term of sale. Enough was enough so I requested an immediate refund. From the very beginning I was promised a refund if the amp did not work. The TWO AMPS DID NOT WORK. But, Art conjured up a number of excuses, as noted, until he finally worked up to denying me a refund period.

Art's next response was to post portions of our emails conveniently omitting the parts he didnt want anyone to see. I posted the entire exchange, to that point, in that same thread. In any event, Art is refusing a refund that we agreed to. He has come up with all kinds of weird logic why he will not refund. The man is not being honest and I am tired of his accusations, condescending attitude and distortions of the truth. I am done dealing with him and I am moving on with repairing the amp.

Because he wont refund me on an obviously faulty amp I am forced to ship the amp and pay for repairs at my expense. But, somehow this man tries to make out like he is the injured party and claims the amps are fine; which they are not. I tested the output at the point where the amp begins to have bass/ low frequency distortion with a Rat Shack SPL meter. That level has 78 db on peaks using a Grado sr-80, fed by a sacdmods cd player to the 6210 set on the 60 ohm /low setting. The sr-80 will play to 88 db on peaks out of my cheap $39 portable cd player without distorting.

Therefore, if I were buying any of the amps that he typically sells I would buy them from another reputable seller. He apparently will not back his products and he will change the terms of sale as he pleases. If the amp truly worked I could simply sell the amp and be done. But I will not sell a defective amp to someone else. If I ever sell this amp the amp will be in working order when I do.

I have close to 150 head-fi transactions and I have never had a problem like this. I would examine any potential transaction with Mr. Wells closely.

I've bought some tubes from drarthurwells for my doge. The tubes were as promised and arrived very speedily, well package.

He answered my intial query and later questions promptly. Good sale and no problems.

This is in reply to SACDlover's previous post. For a full discussion of this matter, click on the Doge 6210 link in my signature below and read the last 5 pages of that thread.

SACDlover bought a new Doge 6210 from me, complained that it had distortion and low volume and a knob problem. He would not wait and listen to a proper tube combo I sent him separately (on a trial basis and return, or for later payment of $35 - neither of which he ever did), and would not try my simple fix to tighten the knob - he returned the amp to me almost as soon ashe got it. While it was in transit back I sent him another amp - testing it this time to be sure it was fine and it was.

When I got the first amp back it had no sound quality problems that SACDlover complained about. It took me 10 seconds to tighten the knob.

Then SACDlover said the second amp, tested good by me, also had distortion and low volume. He said it showed no sign of damage, either to the amp or the box it was in. He demanded a refund which was not a condition of the sell and I refused. I told him two new amps would not present the same exact pronblem, and since the first amp was fine he had lied about saying it was distorted and low in volume, and since I had tested the second amp before shipment, I suspected the second amp was fine also, unlike what he said.

He said he would send this second amp to someone for repair, to substantiate his claim that it was defective. I suspected he would send it to a friend to say it was defective when it was not, so I told him to return the amp instead to me for repair or replacement. I would send the replacement amp (the first one he sent back) to a third volunteer Doge owner to test it and state it ws not defective before forwarding to SACDlover (so he couldn't again say it was defective).

He refused this fair solution since I would discover the second amp, like the first, was fine, and having a third party ship him a tested replacement would deny him the opportunity to again say it was defective. So, he spent much money and sent it to Cotdt for "repair" when I could have fairly resolved his complaint for free.

Why would SACDlover refuse my offer of replacement if he were telling the truth about the amp being defective?

Cotdt then posted a number of descriptions, I believed were false, about the second amp, changed some of these when I showed how impossible his descriptions were, and never answered the points I raised to question his descriptions. Again, for a full discussion of this, click on the Doge 6210 link in my signature below and read the last 5 pages of that thread and you judge for yourself.

Meanwhile SACDlover never returned the four tubes I sent him to try, and never paid me $35 for them, in spite of my repeated requests for this.

Purchased a pair of HD650s

I recently acquired a pair of HD650 from drarthurwells and the experience was flawless from start to finish. He was very fair with pricing and shipping and was honest with his evaluation of the situation and the product. He was very prompt with his replies, reasonable with questions and pricing, and an overall pleasure to deal with.

I would not hesitate to do business with drarthurwells in the future. He’s a class act, plain and simple.

I had my Eastsound CD-5 modified by a well-known CD modifier. It arrived back to me with the transport broken. This was the fault of the shipper and not the modifier. After communicating with Art, I shipped the transport to him. He was able to repair it for $10 including shipping back to me. I tried to get him to take more but he wouldn't. This was a great deal for me and I highly recommend that anybody having trouble with an Eastsound CD player contact Art to take care of it. Thanks Art.

Just ordered a pair of Senn HD580s from drarthurwells. He's a pleasure to deal with. Do treat any negative feedback of him with a lot of skepticism.

I sold Doc a pair of CT silver IC's. His payment was instant, and even allowed me to compare them to my new copper IC's, which was very generous of him.

Another fantastic Head-Fi'er. Payment was instant, communication was excellent, and I couldn't be happier. The Doc is an absolute asset to Head-Fi. What he does around here, he should be honored for his work. A++++

Thanks Doc...

I bought a pair of Hifi Man HE5s from Asr.  This is my second transaction with him and my second positive experience.  I highly recommend Asr as a seller.
