I am ready to buy today, can someone guide me to a portable amp other than the SR-71. I have a Total Bithead, but want something higher end sounding and built better.

I dunno, it seems like no one is ever disappointed with the SR-71. I went with the SM3 for its size and portability.

maybe the AE-1 :-)

just out of curiousity, why don't you want the SR-71? i would check out the SuperMacro (i haven't heard it, but i love my SuperMini) and the Headroom Micro (which i think sounds great). the AE-1 should be very good, though obviously only a fairly few have heard it.

I do want it, but I can't pay with paypal, and I need an amp now, so I was just wondering what the alternatives were.

Headroom Micro Amp with Desktop module at $300 may be the best battery-powered amp I've heard.

Thanks Everyone, but I didn't know Tod sold the amp (SR-71). I just ordered it Fedex 2nd day delivery. I can now wipe the sweat!!!

Great, I'm sure you're going to love it. I picked one up recently and it's really been an eye-opening experience. I was originally going to buy one a year ago but put it off because I didn't think I really needed it. Now that I finally have it, I've been kicking myself for my stupidity in not buying it earlier. While I haven't heard the desktop module, I did compare it to the HeadRoom amp in NYC and found it was much better for pure sound quality, though the HeadRoom version does offer crossfeed and ability to drive it from wall power.

The SuperMacro V3 Lite is out and costs 249. I am listening to it now and the sound is excellent. I have been comparing it to the regular V3 and the SR71 and it does not give much if any ground to either.

Not for me! Too many hard decisions with the paltry sum of cash I have! I'm going for the Hornet and that's it! I won't be tempted by these other amps

You know you will...

That said, i'm looking forward to seeing what the Hornet brings to the table as well. I actually emailed Ray about it a few days ago, trying to canoodle a release date out of him. His reply was short and diabolical:

"Soon my friend.
Cheers.
Ray Samuels"

John

I had the v3 in a demo with another headfi'er, we traded my sr-71 for his v3.
When it came i thought I was being scammed at first, I thought he just sent me a joke amp maybe...but after a few phone calls it turns out it really was a sm v3.

So I decided to give it a fair shot and listen to her..I mean its all about the sound rite?

this is part of my notes I took....

"this is the famous sm v3?....its a toy...it's not even worth the money to ship it back to the owner!."

But hey w/e the kiddies like these days is all good with me, just not my cup of coffee...or on the same level as I think of the sm after a long (I was really bored) listen maybe I should say it's just not my type of Capri sun juice box....you know the drink all the kiddies drink while their at school..
