ATH-EW9 in the house!!!

My new -- well, new to me -- ATH-EW9 woody clip-on's arrived today (bought from mbratrud).

Call this the honeymoon period. I'm in love. I can mistaken the sound for those of full-size cans. Clear, sweet mid's and hi's typical of Audio Technica sound. The bass is not as weak as I anticipated from experience with CM7. Probably the most surprising is the soundstage. It's wider than I expected it to be.

Physically, they are smaller than I thought. They look much bigger in photos. They're also very comfortable and easy to put on/take off. And they stay on very well.

I better stop here... my wife is giving me the evil stare... I think she noticed my new clip-on's.

Head-Fi is awesome! Who needs to save for their kids' college tuition or money to furnish the new house in three weeks.

Congrats "So-crates" (reference to Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure).

I too was surprised at how small they were when mine first arrived way back when. Do enjoy them to the max, and let us know how they are sounding as you get used to them. Maybe write a review! Not too much has been said about these, although several people like them a lot (erikzen for one).

You know, I saw someone wearing one on the streets of Tokyo yesterday, and it looked like he had them clipped on nice and snug. They were a bit lower on the ear too, resting so the earcanal was directly in the center of the earpad.

I couldn't help but wonder if I just didn't find some magic trick to get the to fit on right. If I hadn't sold mine to such a good home, I'd really regret it. Gotta resist the temptation of picking up a replacement set...

Best regards,

-Jason

I just got a pair (new from bluetin) and I am enjoying them as well. I previously had the em7 so I was very afraid about the bass response, but there actually IS bass here unlike the em7. Ditto on it looking smaller in person. Again, as compared to the em7 much warmer and darker (out of 2nd gen 10gig ipod). I need not say anything about the looks department!

Now that I have the link to Stereophile's audiophile terminology glossary I may be up to the task of writing a review. I can throw in all the terms -- bright, dark... syrupy.

But seriously, EW9 do need a review as my research bore that out. I'll do my best to add to the existing information.

Comments by you, erikzen and others prompted me to look into the EW9 when I had not even considered them before. I have to return the favor, don't I? Resistance is futile. Give in. You won't rest otherwise. You know I'm right. I've seen you make similar comments in other threads. You are aware that you can get them from Bluetin.com for under $150 as opposed to Audiocubes's $200?

Congrats! I am really impressed with the soundstage too! The imaging is also more "solid" than I have had before. Anyone else remember Rogers LS35a speakers? These really remind me of them.

EW-9 are my favorite office 'phone.

You are an evil man. I can't believe I just did a few price-checks. That Bluetin price is great - low street-price here in Japan appears to be around $140.

Best,

I'll be watching for Idaho plates and for guys with afros. And did I mention I'm 6'1" 220 lb? On top of that, I'm Korean which means I was born with Tae Kwon Do genes... why else would the kids in elementary school ask me if I knew Tae Kwon Do?

Nice pics. They look really small on your ears. How comfortable are they? They look like really tight and weighty.
