Best Replacement for

Hello peoples! I've been lurking around here and is my first time posting so sorry for my naiveness... lol. Well my MDR- G74SL's kinda died on me... and im looking for a nice replacement for them. My budget is to about $160 (CAD), i could go higher... but I want to save some money for a new mp3 player. I liked the Sony's for their portable use. I listen to Trance, alternative rock, heavy metal, RnB and classical, in that order. I need them for portable use. Foldable cans are a big plus (one of the main reaons i got the sonys) and have to be durable, my previous pair were the mdr-ex-71's and i thought they were okay, sounded a bit muffled. I dont care about brands but after having both those sonys die of the same reason (left headphone died) id rather not try sonys again...lol. Thanks for your help!

*EDIT* they will be playing out of a iriver slimx 550 cd player and soon an iaudio X5

Oh, those definately don't need to be amped but amping those $15 headphones makes them perform like $70 headphones if not higher. I use them and I find they are extremely fun headphoens.

Another recommendation...Grado SR60.

I am seriously considering the grados after reading through the forums, the only thing that is bugging me is of some people complaining of their comfort, would they be able to used for extended periods of time? thanks again lol

There are many different pad options that make the grados more comfortable. I'm wearing my MS1's now with some beta c-pads made by Larry. They are as comfortable as can be. For less $'s you can get some H414 pads & another option are radio shack replacement pads. So there are lots of options -- but the stock pads are very scratchy for sure!!!

I was asking around and a friend of mine suggested the Sony MDR-D66SL. i know they are sony's *grumble* *grumble*, but he said that they are high quality and are really portable. What do you guys think?
