OK I've heard a bunch of praise regarding the CT570, I want a new, actually decent PCDP for my new Sony V6's and Koss SportaPro's

anyway...I was looking at Panasonics and the CT790 looks sooooooooooooo sweet, does it have the same qualities of the 570?

n4rc0l3pt1c, I haven't heard the SL-CT790, but you may want to pass on that one. The U.S.- and Canadian-market versions of that model has no line-out at all whatsoever, making the headphone-out jack as the U.S./Canada SL-CT790's only audio output. And the U.S./Canada CT790 may be using the same dull, lifeless, crappy-sounding headphone-out as its cheaper cousin, the SL-CT590. But worst of all, since there's no line out, and there's no anti-skip mode switch, you'll be stuck with the compressed 48-second anti-skip all the time if you buy the American/Canadian SL-CT790.

Note that I'm discussing only the versions of the SL-CT790 officially marketed in the U.S. and in Canada; those meant for the Asian and European markets may have a line/optical out and a linear (uncompressed) 10- or 15-second anti-skip.

yesterday while i bought my sony srf-s83 radio (very SWEET!

), i also tried out the ct790 just to see how crappy it is. It was the north american version, with no line out, optical, or uncompressed sound.

Let me first just say that: IT SOUNDS LIKE CRAP. Yes, to me it sounded worse than the sony srf-s84 radio i was trying out. the s83 radio i actually bought sounded a little better than the pana. I used my tape and foam modded sony ex70's to audition the units.

What stood out the most on the 790 was that it sounded hollow, echo-y, and mid bass heavy. I was really tempted to buy it, since its so small and it only was $180 canadian. however after i listened to it i decided not to.

go for the 570 - or also the 470 .. they're both good unit , i think they're among the best on the market concerning sound quality -

they sonud neutral and sonud is not so much " artifacted " ( maybe medium frq a little over pounding ..)

forget the 790 , and all the new panasonic line - i owned a 590 and gave a listen to the 790 - don't get them .
