Hi. I am offering for sale this nice old pair of Yamaha Orthodynamic headphones. I don't know much about the technology, but there are a few threads here on HeadFi that discuss it in detail.
The drivers are not a typical dynamic drivers, but rather of a planar configuration of some sort (kind of like Stax or the Koss headphones, except not electrostatic). They must be planar-magnetic now that I think about it. If anyone knows, please feel free to comment.
The 'phones are in very very good condition, other than the cable near the plug needs a little work. A new connector (and two inches less cable length) is the best solution. If they don't sell quickly, I'll solder a new high quality plug on them. I just thought I would wait in case someone wants a mini plug I would try to sell them "as-is." They work fine the way they are, but there are clearly visible cracks (cuts?) in the cable near the plug.
They sound great. I hesitate to try to describe them, since my description would be subjective. I can say that they seem well balanced, but lacking in high frequency detail when compared to my HD600s, using a Marantz CD player, Art DI/O DAC, and Gmoy amp built with high-quality parts.
They are the most comfortable headphones that I have owned- lightweight, and with a really nice adjustable headband sling.
I'll post some photos tomorrow. I just thought I would get them up for sale while I had a few minutes to list them. I pack things very well. I take PayPal (premier verified). Heatware under the name cpufan. Other references available upon request. Phone number available if you want to discuss the headphones.
Thanks for looking. Pictures to follow. Price? I don't know. How about $75 including shipping in the continental U.S?
