I'd be interested in seeing these impressions. I just find it strange that some find it to sound so different from Ray's other amps and some are saying that it is like a 'pocket Raptor'.

PS. If someone makes a 'pocket Dynahi' let me know.

I think they both sound pretty interesting and since they are at the same general price point and as such they should be direct competitors.

However I know next to nothing about the Hornet's design, while have a bit of info on the AE-1 that seems to suggest that it will be very nice.

Last time I checked the title of this thread was Coming Soon: HeadAmp AE-1 not Coming Soon: Ray Samuels Hornet. God I tire of all the RS fanboyism threadcrapping...

Ditto that I couldn't agree more

I confirmed this with Justin in a recent conversation, as well as about the GS-1. Justin is the one that is making these badboys in the end after all. I definitely am looking forward to reviewing the GS-1, Justin hurry up

It looks quite nice! I like how the volume knob is dead center in the middle, with an 1/8" input and output on each side, it has a nice symmetry to it that i find appealing. I also like the fact there is RCA inputs on the back, lithiom ion is a very unique and progressive idea and I commend you J-dawg for doing that.

I had a quick listen to the prototype at one of the DC meets. The enclosure is nicely machined and the sound was not bad at all. I think the internal rechargeable lithium battery is a great feature of this amp.

Heh, well at the risk of getting blasted for thread crapping... I think you're going to like it, I think it's a pretty significant improvement over the last generation of Gilmores in that it addresses the areas where folks who didn't like the Gilmore design usually had problems with it.

Heh, I wish I knew Justin was there. Somehow I missed seeing him. I would have loved to hear it, since I already have plans to buy...

I concur. I just think its neat and unique, and i respect Justin that no one else is doing something like that. If you look at some of the other portables, just in feautures, they are all starting to blend. multi gain switches, various other switches, 9 volt batteries, etc. The AE-1 appears to be a unique product at a possibly attractive price point, and I just love that symmetry in the front, that's hotter than Paris and nicole on a road trip

It sounds very good you won't be disappointed.

If Headamp can keep the price in the $300 range I will be ordering one of these as soon as they come out.

I received the following e-mail from Justin this morning in response to my enquiry "How's the AE-1 coming along?"

Derek,

Right now it looks like it's going to be about 3 weeks until they start
shipping. I expect to have a web page up about it along with a
pre-order sale within a week.

Thanks,
Justin

Ummm maybe it's just me but because you can't hear the difference between the two doesn't necessary mean the hornet is a good amp, it could just mean that the raptor is crap.

Last I heard it'll be about $300-$350...

This mean the Lite is going to get a reduced price/phased out? Or are they supposed to completely different product lines?
