Suggestions on further improvement

I'm sticking to my headphones and modded XCan for now but would like to bring it to the next level. I have 2 choices:

a) Dedicated power supply + tube buffer - roughly 550 pounds.
b) New source (possibly Cyrus CD6 or NAD 542)roughly 800 pounds....yeap I'm going for a mid level cd player


I'm still researching on whether a preamp/ tube buffer would bring any improvements to my mid-fi (or low depending on perspective). At the meantime, I can only afford one upgrade only. The first choice is cheaper of course.

Any advice would be appreciated.

ps. I must add that I'm currently using EMU 1212M with very low end interconnects. The EMU is ok but I can't get a good interconnector due to its 1/4 switch requirements (from where I come from)

Thousand apologies. Should be in the dedicated source forum. Decided to try the Cambridge Audio Azur 640c and see how it goes. The Cyrus CD6 (new version accordign to the supplier ) is not available yet.
