EDIT: oh, are any of you guys going to Anime Boston in april???? cause ill be there, i also was at Ohayocon in january

I'm still on the fence about Last Exile.  There are certain character choices that just really make me angry.  Like a certain character who supports a megalomaniacal commander despite the fact that said commander used the former character to destroy the character's whole damn country.  The series hints about deeper motivations and higher reasons, but I think that trying to use some higher moral good to justify that scale of homicide is just really a crock.  Maybe the writers will pleasantly surprise me, and maybe that character has a hidden agenda and will redeem themselves, but right now it just drives me up the wall.  I also really haven't felt that empathetic with Fam as a primary antagonist.  She just seems optimistically clueless and out of place in the world sometimes, and I haven't seen much real significant character development or maturation.  /rant

And nope...no Anime Boston for me.  SakuraCon yes...my sister is actually coming up from Hawaii for the con as well, which will be kinda cool.  First con we'll be able to go to together in something like 6 years.

Haha...I'm enjoying it mostly, but it's not a work of art by any stretch of the mind.  Probably something that can be recommended if someone liked Bakemonogatari a lot and wants more of the characters, but even after watching the latest episode I can't say the story is really going anywhere for me.

I can not wait for the movie that is suppose to come out!

Shinobu is really the main positive so far for me in the series.  The fire sisters are fun to look at, design wise, but they aren't nearly as interesting as characters than I had originally thought they would be.

I would say the only thing keeping me coming back is milia and the air battles lol other than that the show is pretty meh you're right, it's got nothing on the original.

True...Millia actually has developed some as a character...Giselle has a little too, though she comes across to me as so bland that it's kind of hard to notice.  You know, when I look back on the first series I remember feeling frustrated with how Claus kept getting beaten up and everything, but that's nothing next to how frustrating some of the aspects of the story are and how for me.  That and it seems like so many of the characters, especially the returning character, feel under-used.  Overall, too many secondary characters, too little development or real face time.  I can hope the end game makes me forget all of this, but they're starting to run out of episodes.  >.<

And yeah...the air battles are great.  They could probably have done a series that just focused on a military commander and the conflicts he/she was in during this time, and it would have felt more compelling.

Fam is problematic as it jumps around too much. I never know what is going on from one week to the next. I just watch it for the nice animation and Range Murata styling.

Heh...I'd counter that it jumps around because it follows where Fam is going, and that's not the problem so much.  It's that I really don't care too much about Fam to pay much attention to why we end up anywhere.  But I'm not bitter or anything.  Nope.  wink.gif

Though it's not an anime series, I just watched the movie Tekkonkinkreet. It features really nice-looking artwork in my opinion and it has an interesting plot.

Relating to music, I just checked out the original soundtrack from the library and it sounded horrible...even the ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION ending credits song sounded terrible; as if it was recorded in 192kbps. :(  I am dissapoint.

"As if it was recorded in 192kbps". I don't think you are making much sense here. You can't record something in lossy format.
And even if you could, 192 is usually still seen as an acceptable quality. You can hear the difference between lossless and 192 in many cases, but it is certainly not as horrible as you seem to imply.

It is on the other hand very well possible that you either found a very bad rip (happens sometimes), or a very bad recording. The latter is usually caused by the mastering, and not the bitrate at the recording state.
Most likely stuff such as excessive dynamic compression has caused what you describe as horrible. Especially because this is (unfortunately) very often done in anime OP/ED's, so why not credits?

Finally I have to say that even though I love ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, some of their recordings do not really live up to my high sound quality standards.

Right you are. Thanks for the corrections. I wasn't really thinking when I typed that out since I was panicking about an online homework problem I was struggling with.

Yes 192kbps is listenable. I just re-listened to some of the tracks and they are poorly mastered, as the correct terminology goes. Parts of the tracks sound really distorted or something...it just sounds very unfitting. In the case of the ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION's track, the drums, cymbals, and guitar sound really, REALLY bad.

The music sounded much better while watching the movie through the home stereo speakers. XD

Nice!  Another one of those series that I mean to watch one of these days.  I think my sister watched it, but I don't think I've talked to her about it for a while.

Thanks for the impressions and the subs recommendation!  Something kind of wacky might be nice.  Like I said, I feel almost like I'm going through withdrawal now that I don't have any new Wagnaria or Ika Musume.

Dear Head-Fi-AnimeLovers-community,

This question is a slightly misplaced here and i apologise for it.

I would like to know whether anybody has read the Ah! My Goddess - First End by Yumi Toma (but engl. translated version)?

In my experience, reading such books, based on Anime, movies or other previously released form of media, are never (up to this point for me) well written.

I only read L change the world, based on Death Note, which was for my understanding, so badly written/translated, that some of the sentences in the book made very little (to no) sense.

(Reading pages and paragraphs up to 3 times, to completely understand the page).

Of course those books can't be compared to authors like Ernest Hemingway, but still i would like to enjoy the book without having to read pages more than once (because of "unusual" syntactic arrangements).

How was the book to people who have read it.

I would appreciate some opinions / reviews.

Your sincerely,

TheDreamthinker

P.S.: I apologise if i made errors of my own, but it is late and i am very busy at the moment.

Can't wait until the season final. Surprisingly good series, never knew anime was suited for horror thrillers.
