audiopimp, sweet! Hey man, that guy actually has some great stuff though, pretty good prices to boot!

Rob, that's insane, you've got them all on top of each other two like an orgy - come one larry, lets see your best multiple hp-1000 picture.

Wow, great thread I dug up. Being the proud new owner of these phones now - I would have to agree with 99.9% of the posts on this thread. Interesting read for those interested in the PS-1 or HP-1,2 or RS-1.

And by the Grado masters no less!

Congrats on picking up some HP-1000's Rob.

I look forward to reading your impressions, perhaps how they stack up to the K1000, once you've become more acquainted with them. I'm absolutely thrilled with mine and will always have at least one pair in my collection. Their ability to extract accuracy and detail, along with their wonderful build quality, is unrivaled compared to any other headphone experienced by these ears.

Thanks!

Yes. I am a pretty happy camper. These things never do something too much or not enough, they are just right. I'd be happy to give a comparison, impressions when I get used to them.

I don't think I'll ever part with these or the K-1000's either (everything else is game).

You said it best: Their ability to extract accuracy and detail, along with their wonderful build quality, is unrivaled compared to any other headphone experienced by these ears

Should be interesting...

Well, to balance off this thread a bit - I just sold mine.

I still love them, but my head-fi life is just so so busy now between the L3000, Qualia, JVC, and incoming R10. I'm sorry HP2...I love you, but I think it's time for you to start seeing someone else, someone who will give you the attention you deserve. You deserve better than me! I know we got back together after the last breakup, but things are different now. We can still be friends, right?

lol - the old "it's not you, it's me" routine, eh?

But will she take you back when you come crawling on your knees for a third go 'round?

Head-Fi journey's can be a long, crooked road with many stops. Always fun, always interesting, and lots of interesting people along the way.

You're such a player.

You need to change your avatar now

There are three versions that I know of. The ruffled looking area where I have the red dot has either unlettered back tops as shown, lettered back tops instead of all ruffles (something like "Joe Grado Signature Products") and black back (black cap) tops instead of white (still red dot area). The latter were used with the black body headphones, assuming so the white didn't stick out like a sore thumb. The rest of the driver is white, the same as the all white versions. I can't remember if there's a lettered and unlettered black cap.

All versions have the center black magnet cover (blue dot). This is what Jahn saw and assumed was the same as his black caps, they're not. The green dot shows where "star" comes in. Shown from the back in the top pic (with magnet cover removed) and from the front on bottom pic (with front cover removed). All HP1000 drivers have the "star".

Yes both exist, my SR100-0 has an unlettered black one.

I have just checked thoroughly with a flashlight. I am 100% positive ;)

Sorry if the picture doesn't make it this evident. Simply judge by comparing with this one:

Unlettered white

Lettered white

And with traced letters in Paint, with zoom and visual effort

Was this change only a aesthetical one? The black trait is a sign that the driver was manufactured more recently? And should fail later? Or the black color is just a special paint that was applied afterward?

I want my have SR100-0 for the day the white drivers inside my HP2 will die but today I was a bit shocked when I discovered the drivers didn't looked very much the same... but they do sound almost the same so I guess it'll be okay.
