• Cups and neckband painted flat black.
• Drivers vented with one whole punched in each side.
• Rear of driver damped with adhesive felt.
• Recabled with light weight braided cable.
• Rear-grille replaced with more open screen.
• Inside of chassis damped with hobby-tak and adhesive felt.
• Replaced pads with knock-off PX100 pads.

How do they sound?  Surprisingly, they sound REALLY good.  There is actually some similarity to my HD650's in their fundamental balance (Check out the graphs for stock and this won't sound so crazy...).  The difference comes in the fact that stealth-mod iGrado's are drier and have a bit more treble sparkle.  One of the only real negatives is that while they have the transparency of an open headphone, the soundstage isn't huge.

Questions and comments are welcomed!

Those look great smily_headphones1.gif...nicely done.

Save your money guy's. The Earzonk leatherette pads sound terrible. They really screw up the sound stage (some instruments sound really far away.) The bass is too boosted, sounds muddy, and that Grado treble sparkle is gone. I've never heard pads change a sonic signature so much. They are comfortable but awful sounding. They're going back to the Amazon. I'm using SR-225i's.

Just slipped them onto my SR60 pinks. Sadly its true. The only benefit was when I switched from Buena Vista Social Club to some Brian Eno's "Another Day on Earth". There I saw a bit of a bass boost which was appropriate for the genre.

No it doesn't suck, these guys are describing what I found with leather pads on a Grado.

Sounds like they're going to be good for the stratoKOSSter.

I'm working on a Grado SR80 woody mod with a set of Cherry Wood cups I got from 7keys.  Since I'm going to have the drivers out anyways, I was hoping to make the cable detachable.

However, looking at the dimensions in the data sheet for the 3.5mm female jacks (on Mouser), it doesn't seem like the end is long enough to fit through the cable hole in the wood to secure it with the nut.

Here is an example of one I am looking at:

http://ca.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Kobiconn/161-314M-E/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMv0W4pxf2HiV4SF5PAwez%252bfDWSS0LO62Zo%3d

From the data sheet, it looks like it is 4.5mm for the end and I don't think that is deep enough to fit through the wood.

Any ideas on either some deeper 3.5mm mounts or a way to secure?

I appreciate the encouragement, especially from a modder like yourself. From my description of the sound, have you heard any Grado's that would compare favorably to these?

The Stealth-iGrado does sound quite a bit better than my MS-1's (Smoother/more refined top end, better bass, tighter dynamics) so I'm interested to consider where they might hypothetically fall within the Grado line up in terms of SQ.

...that's a tricky question to answer...not too sure I can. As far as Grados go, the consensus is that the PS500 is the most laid-back/least "aggressive" Grado, but having never heard a pair, or yours, or a pair of HD650, I feel grossly underqualified to comment beyond that

Sorry, I packed them up to send back. With the pads they have a resemblance to SOL Republic's HD V10. The pads fit okay but aren't really flush to the can like the L&G Cush. They just kind of sit there, plenty of wiggle room.
