It's that time again: the SXSW 2008 Showcase collection is now available. The download site also has torrent files for the three prior years' collections, if you didn't get them when they were fresh. Being torrents, it's best to get them while they're popular, so I don't know how slow the older ones will be.

Since posting about the 2005 one, I've downloaded and gone through the others, and continue to keep about 10% of the songs. It's broadened my musical horizons greatly.

And here we go again. There doesn't seem to be an official torrent yet, but someone has gone and DIY'd it. I've already downloaded the first two parts and have gone through quite a bit of it, and it seems legit.

This year, over 6 GB, and well over 1000 tracks. Free and legal! These SXSW torrents have certainly introduced me to more bands than I ever got from any other source. Just awesome.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

It's SXSW torrent time again! I'm downloading from here this year.

It's "only" 5.3 GB this year. I feel cheated.

For anyone who hasn't downloaded an SXSW showcase torrent before: it's a lot to go through, yes, but it will introduce you to awesome new bands. Probably about half my music purchases in recent years are due to SXSW showcase discoveries.

These torrents introduce me to a lot of new music every year. I throw it on random when I'm not in the mood for something specific, and just keep track when I find something I like.

Just finished, total download took me like 1.5 hours. Got some beastly download speeds on this. This also finally pushed me over the 50,000 song mark. LOL.

I might have to wait until the weekend to check this out. I'm afraid the college will yell at me for torrenting even though it's legal.

So can I still get the ones from years past too? Still legal?

yes, still legal
