AKG K501 purchase

After reading feedback to my question about AKG 501 vs 271, I took the advice and ordered the 501's from TTVJ. Todd's price at $169 was better than anyone on the net. Plus $5.00 for priority mail is excellent. Some sites wanted $15 for shipping.
Now there's the E4c, the refurb HD600's on Amazon. Will it ever end!!

Welcome to head-fi, sorry about your wallet.

Congrats on your purchase. I hope for you the great midrange is enough to make up for the recessed bass.

I want to try out the K501. I have been watching the FS forum, but not many are coming up. I guess people must be satisfied with them.

well the 501 is just such good value that one would either be foolish or just not enjoy the AKG signature

I may also soon take the K501 plunge. How are you liking them so far, and can you compare them with any other cans you might have (or have had)??

Also, are you amping them or using them straight with any portables?

Thanks....

! Sure hope he's amping them.

Before the k1000s, the k501 were the only headphone that satisfied me. It's such a great value.

Amping the 501's

The 501's have not arrived yet. Spoke with Todd today and he said they went out today via priority mail. I have a Portaphile 2 that I've been using. They are supposed to work well with the AKG's. I currently use it with a pair of Senn 580's and Grado 225's. No complaints. Everyone I've spoken with said you need power with the 501's. I'll do an update after I get them.

Thanks for the feedback. I may be getting a pair of these soon as well, although I don't really NEED them....

You need them son, only then will you learn the true power of the dark side of the Force.

Really these are gr8 headphones which are ever pleasing and should be part of any headphone collection.

Well, yes, of course. You get a lot of sound quality and comfort for the price with the K501. I wouldn't want to have it as one & only headphone, but it's good to have one of these. Or two...

But master, I thought AKG's were not of the dark side, unlike Beyers......

(BTW, Kunwar, I am 42 years old, are you old enough to be my parent?)

old enough in headphone terms, mate, otherwise not really hahaha

Sorry If you were offended pops....

No AKG's are not the dark side but for the bass loving majority of music listeners they definitely are the dark side.

My young padawan, the force has two sides, a dark side and a light side. The K501 is very much on the light side of the bass I'm afraid.
