Howdy, I have a Carver Preamp in my current setup, the setup is reasonable, I feed a Carver a760x amp with the preamp, with just the amp turned on, its dead silent, no audible hum or distortion from the speakers, However when you turn the preamp on you get a low volume hum in the speakers, its only when the preamp is on.. I had junky interconnects connecting the preamp to the amp so I replaced them thinking they were the problem, I used a set of MIT Tmax interconnects 2m pair. The hum is still there on any source, its just always there.. its easy to drown out by just turning the volume up, the hum doesnt increase with the volume perhaps one of you all has an answer. I also would be interested in any tweaks anyone had for the preamp if possible Thanks in advance, and im a newbie so take it easy on me.. I did a search and didnt see anything on this, however, im sure I missed something...

I bought these puppies just before Christmas and they have been a revelation. I can't tell you how much they suit my listening tastes. I love close listening with lots of treble and tight...

It's very small player, so I like it. I have Clip+ since Christmas and I'm very satisfied!

First of all let me say this is one of my favourite BA driver earphones I have ever heard. That said, being a basshead, these didn't deliver in the bass department - I can't deny the fact...

I've had this card for quite a while now, and I have to say its a really nice card - a huge step-up to my on-board motherboard's audio. At first I do have to admit, it didn't feel like the D1...

Long story short: These earbuds, shouldn't ever be bought, when they come free in your iPod package, its fine to look at them, and try them on. If you know someone wanting to buy these,...

hey norton, welcome to head-fi!
sounds like you may have a ground hum, try a different outlet or a cheater plug and see if it alleviates it. also try rerouting your wires away from power supplies.
outside of that, i don't know whats up. hopefully someone else can lend you a hand.
best,
carlo.

I agree with Carlo - if you have your preamp plugged into a different socket than the rest of your equipment you might have a ground loop going on. Try plugging everything into the same power strip or use two power strips in the same receptacle.
I had the same problem when I hooked up my PC soundcard to my preamp. As soon as I plugged everything into the same receptacle the hum disappeared.
Good luck,
David
