Bought Klipsch Pro Media 2.1, and am getting a hissing noise

It's audible when I turn the volume all the way up on the speakers themselves. However, it's MORE audible when I turn the volume on XP all the way up (which is worse). I'm thinking an audigy 2zs budget card (that I am going to get soon) will clear up some of the noise. But the noise with the speakers themselves is troubling, I get the faint fuzzy hissing noise even when they are unplugged.

1. Are the defective?
2. How much will the sound card fix?
3. Should I return them and get new ones?

i'd suggest an inexpensive turtle beach sound card...creative labs are known, amongst other things, for their hiss...some of us here are amazed that ANYONE would buy ANYTHING from creative labs...just my 2ยข...

p.s. wouldn't hurt to speak with customer support (if such a thing still exists)...

Creative was the solution a few years back before my gamer to audiophile conversion.

I'd say that the hiss is normal. My 2.1's hiss as well but that's only because I have them hooked up to an old SB live sound card. I would get a new sound card, and if you're not a gamer...don't waste your money on the Audigy 2zs, you'd probably get better sound from a Chaintech AV-710 for like $25.
