building my system...is this idea feasible?

you can see the rigs im using right now below, but i dont have a legit 2 channel system or ANY system downstairs in my house. most of this is because while i have around 6k mp3s, i have very few cds/records. as a fix, the system ive built in my head involves me building a pretty nice budget system downstairs (a cheap old marantz integrated would do) and putting an airport express downstairs and running its usb out into the new headroom micro dac and the dac's line out into the marantz. there are a couple of possible problems which have surfaced in my mind. First, i dont know how well the air port express will work. Second, i dont know if the usb out of the airport express will host the micro dac. third, and most important, will it sound good? Anyone else think this is a good idea or have any other comments/suggestions? oh yeah, i have no idea what speakers i want, but i really dont want to spend more than like 150 on them. advice on that would be good too.

There is extensive information by users on the Airport Express in the "PC Audio" section of the Audio Asylum.
I would do a search that is forum specific and get ready to read but as a quicky answer I think the setup you describe is totally workable with the caveat that I do not and never have had and airport expresss in my posesssion and am only going on second hand information from various threads I have read

pretty much all of my uncertainty lies in the airport express, i was also looking at the netgear MP101, which was eliminated because it has no digital output. i just am not sure if the usb connection will work with the mini Dac. thanks.

I have read a lot of opinions on the airport express so these are not me speaking but second hand (I always research a product under consideration for my loot).

The majority opinion seems to be this is a very good product but one that can have "issues" with actual use.This being an area not very settled in the audio arena (USB) and far from perfected this is as good as it gets for what it does presently available short of thinking out of the box DIY solutions.

Mated to a good external USB DAC and using the Hard Drive as music server for whole house distibution maybe the best solution to date but his again is online and opinion and from second hand info.
I suggest you not only do some background research but maybe ask your questions driectly in a forum where there are many with experience actually using the device in a real system.
