PS Audio Ultimate Outlet

Would this thing be overkill for my computer and monitor?
It depends. If all you want is surge protection, it is overkill. If you are buying one to improve your computer audio with power conditioning - maybe it is worth it, but I wouldn't buy one for computer audio myself. Better to use one with a higher end CD player/headphone amp. I have one for my main stereo and like it a lot.

Just my 2 cents. It may depend on how high you are aiming for quality with your computer setup, but computer audio is inherently limited IMO.

Overkill.

Go with a solid surge-supressor from APC.

I already have a surge protector from APC. But the surge protector offers nothing in the way of power conditioning, which is what I'm looking for.

I don't see a big downside to trying it.

I have an Ultimate Outlet for my audio equipment, but, to be honest, I haven't even considered using it for my computer. I have always had good quality PSU's that would make the benefits of the UO redundant.

As for the monitor, that could be a worthwile experiment.

I would think that power conditioning in combination with a high quality PSU would be better.

For all you noobs, all UPS have a basic single or double layer of power filtering.
We had two whole chapters in Electronic Devices and Circuits regarding power conditioners and UPS.

Being that I am an EE, I resent being called a "noob."

how about picking up a OneAC line conditioner on ebay? They are very popular around here, as a search will show. This is a good thread about it. I have to confess I could not hear any sonic improvement after installing mine (a CP1107), but it is a very solid piece of equipment!

It's my understanding PS Audio sources those specially from Hubbel. You can pick up a hospital grade Hubbel with isolated ground for less than hals the PS price and have 90% of the features. Such an outlet would provide some benefits.
