New speakers (Whaderfale, JMLabs, EPOS) 200 pounds limit!

Hello!

After being off for a long while, im back on the hi-fi mania!!!

I was thinking of getting new speakers ( my old KEFs are now owned by my father  ) so I need new speakers. I was thinking in getting some Whaderfale Pacific Evo 10 (169.99 pounds) that are now a fairly good deal here in the UK. How are your opinions on this speaker? There is also another speaker from this company, the Diamond 9.1 (179.99 pounds). Are they better than the Pacific Evo 10?

If not I would probably would head for some EPOS ESL3 (199.99 pounds) or may be some JM Corus 705S for (204.99 pounds).

200 pounds is really my limit, so I wouldn’t go for something that is over those 204.99 pounds. To power these I´ve got a Cambridge Audio A2 and a Rotel 971 CD player with some Black Rhodium IC. Thinking that is probably that I will get a better amp in around a year which speaker do you think will be a better option?

At this risk of sounding repetitive, I'd check out the Tannoy Fusion 2s at your price range. I really really really like these paired with a cambridge amp, and they've gotten some pretty good reviews as well...

I have the JMLab Chorus 706 and I am extremely pleased with them. I like the higher sensitivity and the very refined treble from their patented inverted dome tweeters. The speaker is fast and dynamic but still imparts a richness to the sound than never seems thin. The chorus 705 is very similar but lacks a little of the 706's bass response....its still an excellent speaker.

Think used at this price point...

If you are open to the used market I would look at a good monitor from 10 years ago or so.... I recently saw Spica Angelus speakers sell for $250 US and they give my $1500 Spendor S5e's a run for thier money. What type of speaker are you really looking for?

Try Audiogon.com or ebay and I think you could get a real cherry for 200 pounds that will plow away any full retail speaker.

Sorry mate, I wasnt meaning you, Ive actually look into them, but you know my girlfriend ( and future wife! ) doesnt want ugly speakers and they dont appeal her.

I would really like to have good old speakers to be fair with you, but most of old speakers are not very good looking ( so that means a no, no ) and also im limited to europe. Shipping to the UK is often expensive and custom duties sometimes apply Anyway I will give it a look

If the Tannoys get passed as being to ugly, you're gonna be in major trouble trying to find something suitable. Certainly in your price range.

Well, she prefers the Wharfedale or the EPOS. ALso she likes the ProAc but that goes well over my top!
