OFFTOPIC: DBT-Free Forum? - Page 3

For a headphone test like that, it won't really be DBT, because you won't be 'blind', even though you can't see, you'll be able to feel the difference between the ety and the HD600. It will be very obvious which one you are wearing. It wouldn't even be single blind, because the person switching plugs for you will know which is which also.

What you are doing is just a comparison test, which is A-Ok, in fact, we like them a lot You aren't trying to make a scientific claim as to which is the superiour headphone, you are just letting us know which you prefer, and in what areas. We like reading those.

On accuracy

The problem with "accuracy" is that different engineers use different monitoring devices, and different biases, for what they consider the most accurate mix. But none of them use the same thing. A good one will use a variety of monitoring devices, but he will still have in mind the "perfect" mix, and it only exists in his head. Every playback/monitoring device in the world will alter it somewhat, introduce its own character on top of that sound. So even if you do come up with a monitoring system that represents a particular recording as close to perfectly as possible, it will be worse for another. I laugh at that Halco amp that is advertising .000001% distortion or something like that (actually, I think it's even less, by orders of magnitude). That's nice, but most people who monitor mixes don't use it, so it's not "accurate" to the original recording. If you read that headphone shootout from TAS, the guy writes a nice introductory paragraph on explaining what I am trying to convey, so I will leave it at that. It's not just a matter of distortion, or that everything is less than some sort of fictitious ideal perfect goal that everyone is shooting for, it's that they all color the signal in one way or another, and it's a matter of picking something that does the best combination of colouring it least and to your liking as possible.

hmmmm.......phidauex maybe I could have saved you some time by dropping one of these at the end. I guess I have to have a few more posts before I use stoopid/ignorant humor so people don't take me seriously.

Oh. You were joking. I see. I live in a cold and humorless world, you see.

Even Pauly Shore can no longer bring laughter to my grey world.

So yes, you should use big ol' happy smileys, or my personal favorite, the winky face to let me know you are being silly, so I don't have to lay upon you the wrath of the DBT Nazi. <-- See? Winky face!

Peace,
