Recommand me some Jazz Funk! - Page 3

Tyrion, you got to see George Clinton and PFunk, I am soooo jealous and you you got Acoustic Alchemy coming in May. Man, Florida gets all the good concerts. Hawaii gets, well we got Diana Krall next week I belive at over $100 bucks a pop (diner/concert b.s.) As for VicAjax's pick of Cosmic Slop over One Nation Under A Groove all I have to say is "do you promise to funk? the whole funk and nothin but the funk?" How do you choose?

"Can I get it on my left foot? good god!"

P Funk was just down here but I missed it. As I mentioned earlier, I caught him with Phish about 1 1/2 years ago. We have been getting a lot of shows in the last year or two. If you intot the jam band scene this is a pretty good place to be. We had a 2 day festival here in March, headlined by String Cheese Incident.

JK they aren't a Jazz Funk band.  Perhaps they through that as an album name because industrial was yet to get it's name.

Snarky Puppy - Ground Up
Funky Knuckles - Meta-Musica

Go to iTunes and listen to some samples, than report back here. This is new music, created and performed by very talented young musicians. If this ain't FunkJazz, I don't know what is!wink.gif

Huge +1 to both groups.

Also add Maz, Stanton Moore, Dave Weckl, and Jaco Pastorius.

Wait, did my stupidity just help revive what was a dead thread?!?!

Awesome! Well, here's my contribution. I posted this originally, looking for music that sounds similar before realizing this thread was dead.

Love the Jazzy sound of this song. I need more stuff like this! English or Japanese, doesn't matter.

If anyone's up for some hard-chargin' Funk/Jazz I got some for ya!;)  A few days ago I bought $25 worth of music that I'm gonna share.  All new music released within the last few weeks.  I picked select cuts from different records from itunes, put them all on a playlist set to random, and JAM!!  I'm gonna give you the artists/albums and track numbers.  If you enjoy Funk/Jazz, you should REALLY enjoy this!

Rock Candy Funk Party - Live At The Iridium - This band features Joe Bonamassa on gtr who absolutely KILLS this live set!

Trk # 1/2/3/4/5/6

Snarky Puppy - We Like It Here - the latest from this white-hot band!  Truly one of the best bands working today.  They always record live in the studio with an audience, no overdubs, and very high energy!   Smokin'!!

Trk # 1/2/4/6/7

And lastly

Bossacucanova - Our Kind Of Bossa - The latest from the legendary Electro-Samba band from Brazil.  Believe me, this record fits like a hand in glove with the other 2!  An audio delight with electronix, beats, and traditional instruments coupled with other very heavy-hittin' vocalists from the Brazilean scene.  That you might not understand the language is absolutely NOT an issue, trust me!;)

Trk # - bought the whole record!!

Throw this all in a list and hit random.  My guess is that you'll also hit repeat when it's over!!  I know I do!!;)

OZ is smokin'!  I've got 'Schizophrenic', 'Twisted Blues Vol. 1', & 'Ha!'.  Great stuff!  Have you ever checked out Michael Landau?  He's one of the great electric guitarists of our times.  'Tales From The Bulge', 'Star Spangled Banner', & 'Organic Instrumentals' are must-haves!  He was also in the killa twin lead gtr band; Renegade Creation, with another great gtr-slinger, Robben Ford!

Johnny "Hammond" Smith - Rock Steady. Highly recommended.

1+ Oz Now, have Twisted Blues, great! More jazz-Rock than Jazz Funk, but Jenny Scheinman Mischief And Mayhem is great as well.
