Need a little bit of advice about DHL - Page 2

New updates:

Arrived at DHL facility Oshawa - Canada
With delivery courier Oshawa - Canada

Looks like it should be arriving today... seems kind of silly that they send it to Oshawa only to come right back to Toronto.

Yeah!

The package just arrived... and NO DUTY. This is wierd... I'm wondering if maybe they are going to mail it to me or something. Maybe they couldnt read all the chinese on the package?

That could be, I've had that happen before, you think you're free and clear then a week later a nice little bill arrives in the mail.

Oh and congrats on the new player, I've been looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

Hmm...

8/3/2005 2:19 pm Arrived at USPS. San Francisco, CA
8:11 am Arrived at DHL facility. San Francisco, CA
...

It appears that even though DHL trucks pass by my office each day, they have decided to deliver my package to the PO instead of directly to me. I confirmed with the PO that DHL sometimes does this, and that it will take a few more days for the PO to pass the package to me. It's going to sit around for 3-5+ weekdays in the same city. Maybe even longer depending on the local USPS.

In my experience in the past six months ro so, you're very lucky that DHL got the package to you at all. My corporation has used them for over 10 years, and things were fine until they were bought some time ago by a large foreign entity. Following that massive cutbacks of key personnel were made and their service is absolutely horrible, in general now.
Three fairly recent events should concern anyone using them. Late last winter, they had a package that took two WEEKS to get from Calfornia to me, and even then, I only got it because I went to their warehouse and picked it up, or it would have been longer. A driver, working for them, who I chatted with, told me, point blank, that he wouldnt ship ANYTHING he owned via DHL things were so out of hand, that he uses FedEx!
Lastly, late last week, they delivered a package to the wrong location for one of my co-workers, have still not located it, and a critical installation had to be aborted because of it. And that was the third time this month (and this is only that I personally know of) they have failed at shipping something important. Unfortunately, they are the only authorized company that my corporation has had an arrangement with for overnight delivery (they're frantically trying to change that) and so, people have literally had to use them, or pay for shipping via another company themesleves, and wait 30-45 days to be reimbursed, after filling out a number of forms, etc.

Those 2 guys named Bubba would never make it. They would get full cavity searches in Canadian customs then they would wait forever to get treated at the hospital because theyre not Canucks (no insurance).

I've heard that If you use one of the faster and more expensive options of shipping, that Duty gets included.
i.e. if using UPS expedited, rather than just regular UPS shipping, it'll cost you 10 bucks more, but probably wont have any duty on it.

Yummy, I just found out that I got screwed by DHL. They ditch my package with USPS, and there's a new tracking number. Okay, I'm fine with that. I call USPS and apparently the tracking number exists but doesn't track any known package. They tell me to call my local post offices in my area that delivers to my office to have the employee manually look into their bins for the package, and they don't see any trace of it. Wonderful. I'm never ordering from a certain discount online seller again, and all because of their preferred shipping method to my address.
