I sent it to some 3rd party replair place I found online and they confirmed my fear that the hard drive is toast. Unfortunately this place also wanted $200 for a replacement 40gig hard drive, when I've seen them other places for as little $145. I was looking to upgrade anyway, so I said screw it and just picked up a new 30gig iPod photo.
Aesthetically I'd say it's in very good condition, having lived most of it's life within the confines of a nice black leather Vaja case, which I'm also selling.

I'm only including the cable, but I can throw in the buds and stock case (both unused) for a bit extra.
I have no grand delusions of getting anything close to what a fully functioning iPod would fetch, so make me an offer. If no one bites it'll go on eBay probably sometime next week.
