Help with cabling

Hi guys. In my quest to get some decent but affordable monitoring headphones, I got lucky with two pairs of Sennheiser HD535's. They dont make these now, but are the dynamic equiv of the 660. Only one problem - they are unused reference phones from the BBC, and therefore the cabling sprouts from the top. Totally unwieldly to be honest, and unusable until I sort it. I tried myself, but, with my cack handed cable splicing, I cannot get past crackles in the lines. So, went to a couple of hifi shops to see if they would do the job - nope. "You need to send them to Sennheiser" etc. Can't believe that. Surely Its a simple cut/splice solder job that just needs a steady hand? Somebody also mentioned that there may be a replacement cable I could buy? Any help appreciated. I am based in UK.

I've only seen Sennheiser headphones where the cable entrance is in the top of the headband (their -9K models), but isn't the large connector area on the headband melted into the headband ?
Do you see any space for a connector on the bottom of the ear capsules/cups ?
If there aren't any entraces on the bottom for a cable connector you'll either need to hard-wire cable to each side - or buy new capsules.
You can find a proper here https://secure11.easyspace.com/www.s...dapters_4.html

and Capsules are here: https://secure11.easyspace.com/www.s...rpieces_14.htm
(totals either £80 or £88 )

Black headband is £29: https://secure11.easyspace.com/www.s...dbands_11.html

If it was me, I would send it to Sennheiser and let them do it.
