As my portable and my car rig don't support OGG, I have to rip them all "down" to Mp3.

I didn't quite realise this thread was going on with regards to the B-Tech amp. I didn't exactly "mod" it more of a cap swap, opamp swap and tone control removal. A great little amp for the money..... without doubt!

On reflection I would probably leave the NE5532 opamp in place and just swap out the caps and remove the tone control. the 5532 does have a very nice warm sound and there is no real reason to replace it. At the time I was using a very dark / chocolaty sounding source and listening to HD-600's....... the OPA2132 made the music a bit less syrupy but in some setups it may come across as forward and bright.

Other opamps you may want to try in the 928 amp include:

OPA2134
OPA2604
AD823
OPA2227
OPA2107
AD843 etc. etc.

There are plenty more to try including single channel opamps on single to dual adaptors. some good ones include AD8056, AD8610, OPA627 etc.

It's really a case of suck it and see to find the opamp which sounds best for you....... replacing the caps with something along the lines of Panasonic FC really does make a noticeable improvement as does removing that awful tone control.

Mike.

Thank you PinkFloyd !

Just what I was wondering about opamps !
I think I'm gonna have some fun from now on !

I saw you were using Elna Caps. Do they make really differences compared to the Panasonics ?
I've found some SILMIC form Elna. Do they worth the extra cents ?

Someone from my german forum who did the BTech swap as well first had some noname HQ caps and changed to Elna afterwards. He evaluated the sound to be very "different", but he wasn't 100% sure if it was better. I'll personaly will try out Elnas (which I don't have as well) next time I get my ass up, propably together with further opamp experiments. Thanx for the Opamp list, Pinkfloyd.

Not too astonishing. The 2132 is fine with the boom boom DT770, but when a friend tried out his K501 on the BTech, sound signature was quite ambivalent. He did not have an amp and found detailling and soundscape really impressive, but overall sound too cold and harsh (compared to his integrated amp).
