the way i have it now is with the pre-amp on/off switch on the left then the gain switch

for now, the price is the same ($2495).  once it is released and i have the final costs to build the new model there may be a small increase

In preparing for the arrival of the new GS-X and trying to create a potential endgame rig (if there is such a thing).  What DAC is preferred based on past experiences with the GS-1 and older GS-X?

 

Has anyone used a Tube DAC with any of these?

Can't comment on a tube dac, but my Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2 + GS-X combo is simply fantastic. L3000.gif

I used an upgraded Eastern Electric Minimax tube DAC with the GS-1. It definitely mated better with the Gilmore than it did with the Beta or P/V. I really liked the combo.

I prefer my Lite DAC-83 (PCM1704UK) much more than my Buffalo 32S (Sabre 9018). I find the GS-1 paired with an analytical dac and with similarly analytical HD800 to sound dry. Some would say it's all about synergy, others would say it's just BS. You pick. Oh and I just noted the actually dac chips for reference and in no way inferring that all Sabre 9018 implementations sound the same as we are omitting the output stage along with many other factors.
