YH-1000: the sets I've heard are sort of like improved YH-100 --- mid-centric and very nice sounding mids, relaxed bass, and polite treble. The YH-100's I've modified sounded much like YH-1000. Granted, there are a lot of uncontrolled variables at play: aging effects, de-laminated pads, YH-100 modification schemes, confirmatory bias, etc.

No way of telling what it is until you open it up and have a look at the driver.

That just might be a funky looking plastic grill.

I have YH-1000 and had HP-1000 until I broke one driver >_> (btw if you want remaining parts or broken driver itself - feel free to whisper. I do not know what to do with them..)

I can second that, mostly same opinion. I did not hear the YH-100 however. Mids are the best part of 1000's. You can pump up bass with ear cushions, but at the cost of mids and highs. So better not to. Speaking of ear cushions and overall modding, to me they are unmoddable, already tuned to its best. The only "mod" I ended up actually using - removed ear cushions at all, as most of them make sound worse.

Tried my hands with these, the usual tricks, but found it very difficult to make them cooperate.

The drivers are beautiful (my avatar) and look very well engineered. I'd be happy to learn from your experiments.
