Hot treble And bass bloat? I'm trying to wrap my head around how felt would cause both problems. How thick and dense is the felt; and how much of the rear driver is covered?

Have you solved this riddle?

It's not hot treble, but weird treble.

What I need for this riddle is first time that I can spare.

Right, bought both for $100. Would that count as reasonable?

That's a good price for working, good condition sets.

Ok, thanks for the information. I'm wondering whether it would be possible to transplant one of them into an AKG K141 shell. I know that changing the driver housing will really affect the sound signature and I'm just wondering whether either of them will fit with enough space for dampening.

EDIT: The shell's going for $50 including shipping. Not sure I want to buy it now.

I found the 5M's bass to be vastly overblown and without the "holographic" SS of the YH1, I suspect that the regular 5 would be more balanced.

Great that I bought both then. It may be that like certain Yamaha orthos, there were variences in QC.

Exactly. Congrats on a good deal for 2.

I have no experience with the Foster Fones you plan on using. I can, however, measure the drivers if this would help you

141 shells and any of those AKG types are a ridiculous pain to open and close, not a typical way. And also the gimbals that hold the drivers in some are a real chore. Search through here for Armaegis' AKG k240 to Sextett transplant in his profile. A real chore.

And not to mention all the openings to try out various things.

Do you guys know of any other headphone shells that would work?
and if i'm not wrong, our eldest ortho modders a.k.a ludoo have already tried to use K141 or 140 as fosterfones in the pasts..

or you can check it on:

Ooo, interesting. I see why they're considered difficult to mod now. Also, what would be a good price for a Fostex T20v2? I currently see one listed for $49 + $34 shipping and it seems like way too much.

Well, I did say that I will post how my was-current YH-1 mod is: (click to enlarge obviously)
this is the foam thing that I talked about. It's for crafts that you can get at a store in rolls with different colours and stuff.

Thickness seems to be around 1 to 2mm.

The second material I use is wool, well my guess, since the fellow that gave me this said it's from a winter coat. It makes more sense to be wool than it to be felt

The thickness could be around 3 or 4mm, not too porous.

And empty cup without the vent felt pieces:

So it's cup <- foam <- wool <- driver+baffle.

The sound is as I described previously:

Found the Koss UR55 semi-open backed. Will they work for an ortho transplant?

Anything theoretically works.

I'm worried the 55mm TDS-5 and 5M drivers won't fit with enough room for dampening though.
