Agree 100%. Just like the whole "Built-in amplifiers" bullshchiit with the HTC One.

Or it could just be well intentioned ignorance on the part of marketing people who are not terribly well known for technical acumen.

For some reason this all brings to mind IBM decades ago giving a part with a 3 letter name, a 3 letter acronymconfused_face_2.gif

Even when writing reviews, I've found there to be quite a gap between the PR people and R&D. Sometimes I get very contradictory answers depending who's writing back to me.

Well, at least they give you felt screens.......look at the cups damping of the $300 K550 (close-up) L3000.gif

Ha Ha. Less is more. They still manage to sound amazing though.

Funny thing. I bought a pair of audio unlimited wireless cans for cheap because they have enormous enclosures that I wanted for a transplant project. Just for the hell of it I gutted out the wireless stuff and sealed up the holes for all the swithches, cabled them up and tried them out.The separation is absolutely awesome in these and sound is balanced leaning to bass colouration but not annoyingly so. This from enclosures with a battery compartment on one side and wireless circuit board mounting extrusions on the other. Hardly what one would think of as optimal. There must be something about closed designs that lets you get away with murder.

Hi, I am looking for info on a set of headphones of mine. I purchased them back in the 80's. They are Transducer Research TR5000H. Sound great. Any help on what the specs are and what kind of headphones they are would be great. I can post a pix if needed. Thanks again.....

The K 701 (first graph) vs. my modded HP-50.

Your denial is in conflict with reality as is evident with some thought from what's quoted above.

as in "ortho amazing"? biggrin.gif

the lack of damping and the fact that the cups don't seem to be made of ABS don't reassure me redface.gif

No nowhere near orthomazing (new lexicon in progresswink.gif).  I actually spent a little time with them this week as the post brought them to the fore mind. On par or slightly better than the HD280 pros amazing and miles above the Beats in every aspect.( and no, I have not measured anything, my professional recording mic's are still buried somewhere in the bowels of unused electronics here). Considering the source and the lack of work put into them that is astonishing. You  can of course feel the enclosure resonating which is tempting me to load them up with Affenschiesse just to see.....

The AKG's on the other hand are a top notch phone so once again I have to ponder how forgiving a closed phone is to dynamic drivers. Fostex and Yamaha. of course being living proof that you have nowhere near as much latitude with an ortho in a closed can.

Took one listen to the HP-50S and K 701 by way of direct comparison and it was enough. The K 701 gave me a tinny, sizzly treble slap right across the face while the HP-50S served wonderful neutrality and coherence, and if anything more detail than the 701. Shame about the soundstage.
