Ah, this must be the black stuff I saw in all the little cavities of the T20RP mk II cup, baffle side. I think I should take a close look at that headphone to see if there are any bass leaks or little empty spaces for sound to get lost in. 

 

And it appears you didn't add any further damping to the driver, just filled the empty space in the cup with rock wool, right?

Whoahaa!  Awesome work calico!  I'm impressed.  I hope the wood pins are strong enough to last on the cup holders.  Love the wood bead for the cable split and the wood ferule on the jack.

That Yamaha ended so near the ninja price limit he talked about.... I'm hoping he got it :-)
