And 2007 was undoubtedly the very last year in which one could still hang a YH-2 for less than $50! Good to have you back, Coffeegeek. How's your YH-2 these days?

I think one of the reasons the thread finally took off was the availability of easy to mod orthos that were cheap. I wish that were the case now.

it still is relatively cheap if you count the t50rp

The older orthos in many cases have gotten out of hand price-wise though, it's true.

After your fantastic wood work, it doesn't look cheap anymore

Thanks

It's fun doing them when I have the time.

I guess it's relative. A $250-$300 NAD RP18 with a few mods sounds better than a $600 HE-5 to me. And more than one listener has preferred your T50TPs over HE-5s as well.

Recabled the TH700 and modded it - this HP has decent bass and very good tonal presentation. Helps to make me miss the YH100 a little less.

Heya, I was just bidding on a pair of HP-1's in poor condition @ eBay. I lost, and it went high enough that I am thinking it was a head-fi'er that beat me.

Actually I haven't been around because I realized I just didn't have the ears for this hobby. I thought that I might at first, but I don't. Which is probably going entail me selling off my YH-2's (as well as my HF-1's), since neither have had even an hour of head time for going on 3 years. How time flies....

I wish I could say that I'm saving money by not buying headphones, but instead I started collecting watches...

Didn't this happen to you just a short while ago also?

Interesting that it's terminated for connection to speaker terminals. I wonder if it was like that always.

What difference did the cable to to the sound? (And what mod did you do?)
(What cable is it by the way? It looks good on the Telefunken.)

The cable is silver plated copper, teflon ( I had the cable made up in my parts bin ) , thought the black & white theme suited the TH700 too. The original cable was nasty with an inline attenuator so I didn't listen to it much before recabling it. I have modded it quite extensively and it has very good deep bass with decent extention. It has a gentle 2-4KHz hump which I can live with. Overall sound is very good.
