Orthodynamic Roundup - Page 899

Well it turns out Portland has another ortho ninja who showed up at the meet today with not one but a whole herd of desirable planars.

Sansui SS100, The anniversary ed Fostex T20V1 that we all saw recently on the bay and which sounds real fine without any mods, a YH2 as well as a sleek black Toshiba electret.

A fun meet and a few more ortho converts.

AWESOME! I see a few old friends of mine on that table, (and a few friends behind the camera ).

Was the Anniversary T20v1 different to a normal T20v1 then? (if this is unknown someone needs to send the new ortho ninja a pair to hear!)

A non-ortho question for you in the know. I have an SRX, can it be run off the SRD4 which lacks bias and if I do, how much am I fooling myself. I know the answer is out there but I am being very lazy ..dB
post #13478 of 19952
It's not an electret so it needs a bias supply. You want an SRD-5, 6, or 7, and I think preferably the 7.
hence the question - i know it has no bias and I am not interested in another transformer box so if it cannot be used at all, I will toss an exstata together ..dB

dB has gone to the dark side! Stats (+K1000) forever!
Nothing for it but to get on building that exstata

are the Y1000 worth 500.00?

Not sure how to answer this , so perhaps with another question.

are the R10 worth $5000 or the HD800 $1300 etc .....

..dB

EDIT:

I will say that they have some of the best mids I have ever heard and that recent price tags have been closer to $1000 mark , so yes $500 would seem appropriate.

Don't forget, if stats are on the Side Of The Dark, so are orthos. So it's just a leap into a money pit 10 times as deep but similarly shaped.

Don, you could always supply the bias separately from a bunch of 22v garage-door-opener batteries or something, but mostly the SRD-4 box is useless to you unless you get an SR-30 or SR-80. I say build the ExStata. Cue the ExStata building-type music!
lol - I knew I should have just built it originally and had faith that the stats would come ..dB

( a movie reference for those of you who love baseball )
