Today I got the 32ohm SFI drivers for which I swapped a set of 120s with BoilermakerFan (thanks BmF - I hope your goodies have arrived and are OK).
I keenly threw these into the QP805s that have housed my 120ohms and which I enjoy. The swop took five minutes, and with that time between listenings I couldn't hear a significant difference between the two. Test tones show that they deliver a pretty much equally flat response, both do quite well with the Glenn Gould, Goldberg variations test, in which the more clearly you can hear Mr Gould singing, the better the detail of the can.
My electronic bass test is DMX Bass by the DMX Krew, both do well.
The 32s are obviously much easier to drive and are happy straight from an ipod out, albeit better from a portable amp. I suspect that the 32s sound a bit more controlled with my Canamp, there is really good instrument separation in a way that I hadn't quite noticed with the 120s (could be that it was there but i just hadn't noticed it), but I guess that different amps might respond better or worse to one or the other.
These are going to be really versatile cans.
I modified the cans a couple of weeks ago by cutting away the plastic from the front of the baffle so that it doesn't cover the drivers at all, just like the K340 mod. It was a good mod, clearing up the sound nicely.
Also today I got some 100mm pads from these guys in HK
http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/howtor...__W0QQ_armrsZ1. They diminish bass on the QPs but on the T20v2s they fit well, similar depth to stock, but a wider hole in the middle. They sound similar to stock, less easy to get a good seal, but they're new so that might improve. I'll try comparing the stock and these more closely...
