In my undiapered state I tend to believe a headphone that leaks is going about its business the right way.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

In your diapered state I would hope you would think the same thing, unless you put the diapers on your headphones.

Edit:

I'm kind of hoping the SR-404 LE to be my 'final' headphone. I already have the Jecklin 'stats as my reserved funkyphone-with-actual-soundstage-that-still-sounds-good, and the K1000 costs too much for something that can pretty much only be used in situations where speakers are allowed, which would be infinitely preferred. Think about all the great bookshelves/nearfields that can be had for $1000, and with a better bottom end than the K1000.

Greetings,

New to this Forum.

1. Any idea of how I can fill in the "about me" section of my profile? I have plenty of stuff and no way to list it.

2. I have a set of Yamaha YH-100 Headphones which I love dearly, this brought me to this forum.

a. Factory has no parts or manuals for this product.
b. Plastic weight carrying strap is broken and must be replaced, any suggestions including using one from a different manufacturer?
c. Ear cup pads are still serviceable, any suggestions on replacing them?
d. I've seen mention of tweaking the performance on the YH-100 but didn't see any suggestions on what and how to do it.

I didn't read the entire 790 posts, but did do a scan of about 100.

If there are some post numbers that answer my questions please list them for me if possible.

Many thanks

You should try this search engine:

As for the head strap - some people might have spare parts for you but the better idea is probably to get some heavier leather and use the existing strap as a template to cut out a new one that doesn't need the plastic bits to help it keep it's shape.

SR-404 LE was my favorite Lambda model at the July head-fi meet, and I have a pair that should be arriving tomorrow or Wednesday. I liked them with my GES more than my K1000 out of my 8-watt ZDT. And the GES/404LE vs ZDT/HD800 is probably pretty close as well. I dare say I thought they were similar to my $1400 HE Audio Jade. I didn't compare them enough to the O2 Mk1, but they are more efficient and need less power, and bass was better than my HE60 or Smegma SFI.

Thanks for the impressions, and I await further thoughts on the 404LE's sound after you receive your pair. I'm definitely not ever going to blow $5000 on an 'stat amp like the BHSE, but am hoping to scrape by with building whatever 'stat amp runeight has cooked up (round 2) and maybe a KGSS, and I want something with a smidgeon more treble than what the O2 has to offer, while having as "high-end" a sound as possible. Where did you get yours, by the way? I was trying to find something cheaper than on Ebay but the Japanese auctions I saw are pretty much at the same price. I guess I can ask Craig to alert me if there's a used pair that comes up.

Ooh, you've gotta be one of the prototype builders. Check all your test points one last time and fire that bad boy up asap.

Well, something's gotta replace the SRM-1 Mk2 Pro amp. It's kinda.. well, limp.

For those of you Orthocisti who haven't (ahem) invested in the promise of The Electrostatic Headphone Portfolio, let me explain. You already know that electrostatic speakers and headphones need high voltage to operate. The dream has always been to be able to drive electrostatic panels directly, without stepup transformers. This turns out to be a tall order, because it amounts to asking an amplifier to drive something that keeps spitting the power back, namely, a capacitor, and to swing a few hundred volts each side of zero while doing it. Such a tall order, in fact, that I'm surprised I like my SRM-1 as much as I do, which, frankly, isn't very much.

Comparing a well-tuned Ortho vs. a 'stat-plus-SRM-1 sounds unfair until it comes to dynamic range, at which point the Ortho walks all over the stat combo.

So for the sake of the folks trying to voice their orthos based on the sound of their stats, I wish you prototypers and amp builders every possible luck, especially if you're trying to make a 'stat amp that's affordable.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch:

Bubo, ericj's advice is right on. There are no parts, no online help from Yamaha, but we have collected service manuals and posted them on Wikiphonia. Use the special search engine bequeathed us by friend Ludovico, aka ludoo. You can do a very simple mod that will satisfy you, or you can become obsessed and try to perfect the YH-100, a task that could occupy you for all eternity. The choice is yours.

Be advised that the YH-100's head strap connection hardware is unique; parts from, say, a HP-1 won't fit.

Thanks for the Help on YH-100s

-Done
1. Any idea of how I can fill in the "about me" section of my profile? I have plenty of stuff and no way to list it.

-Love them more after reading the forum and links
2. I have a set of Yamaha YH-100 Headphones which I love dearly, this brought me to this forum.

-Still hard to believe, did Yamaha OEM then export their headphones from a Japanese manufacturer?
a. Factory has no parts or manuals for this product.

-I followed the great suggestion and took the strap to my shoe maker repair guy who was inquisitive and took the order for $30. Strap should be ready on Friday since he ordered in the "right leather for the job".
b. Plastic weight carrying strap is broken and must be replaced, any suggestions including using one from a different manufacturer?

-I'm still a little foggy on where to go with this one, Koss covers, pads from a different manufacturer etc? How are the pads fastened to the headphones, not obvious to me
c. Ear cup pads are still serviceable, any suggestions on replacing them?

-Other than stuffing them with some glass and cotton, any soldering or new cable activities recommended?
d. I've seen mention of tweaking the performance on the YH-100 but didn't see any suggestions on what and how to do it.

New question:

Wikiphonia has a good tech overview, what is considered the best technology in the market today for accurate sound reproduction?

Who makes them?

Are any of the current Koss models worth a look, old memories hold them in high esteem although I never bought a pair.

guys,

i found another missing Ortho...not the hi-end/top tier level i guess, it's a potential one...feel so excited when grab it from a friend...he buy it on local antiques store, well waddya know after HP50A, we discover another missing ortho on indonesia...hoooraaaayyy...:be erchug:

so, what is it exactly ? it's a Sony DR11...how do i know it's an Ortho ? i had look onto the driver, it's using the same driver model as Yamaha HP50A but different spec...cos it's more effective than HP50A, and more forward...i think the impedance is about 8ohm...here's some fast pict of it, more detailed pict's later...

i'll add em to Wiki Ortho later, offcourse when i had more time...

more info about DR11 can be found on:
