This question had me stumped until Kabeer pointed out that your friends might be plugging a mono headphone into a stereo jack on the tape deck. If that's true, then you need to tell them that stereo and mono plugs and jacks aren't compatible-- the stereo channels aren't summed (L+R) into a mono plug. You get some difference signal (L-R), which probably explains the ngung. Unless you're plugging the 50A into a mono jack, it just won't work. Rewire for stereo at your earliest convenience.
thx for the input, wualta...
now let's hope the diafragma didn't broken (because of scattered magnet)...

Unlike the situation with Micro-Seiki electrostats, Yamaha Ortho diafragmas just don't break unless they've been interfered with. Ask ericj and kabeer about that.

A good test of integrity is what dBel84 mentioned earlier: If the ngung, or for that matter any sort of distortion, is equal in both channels and appears to dance on the bridge of your nose, you have an almost certain case of diafragma intacta. It's extremely unlikely that both earcups will have sustained the same damage in the same way.

okay does it matter if the 8ohms is really 8.8ohms and consists of four 2.2ohms resistors in series?

It is ABSOLUTELY critical that they be matched to within .05% of each other and that they are exactly 8.000ohm and stringng them along just won't do ..dB

Well thats no good, I dont have that on hand. ur not helping don LOL j/k, but really. lol, my CC is maxed right now I cant even order the right resistors lol
