Something similar to that, no?

I had thought about not removing the white material on the back of the driver because it was not reversible. And also because I think if they put it there it is for some reason. Plus if I ever want to sell them it will be better if that is there.

I am also a bit interested in the older Fostex HPs like the T20v2. How would you describe its differences (stock) between this one (top line nowadays) and the T20v2? Are they subtle or easily noticeable? How is the fit between both?

Side note: I have seen that the cable has a 1/8'' jack, so making a mini to mini jack that fits there can be easy.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I went with a simpler mod:

I like it, YMMV.

It's Ortho?
Yes. Looks like SFI type driver. There drivers are in SFI headphones, ATH-1,2, Realistic Pro 30 and some other models.

This headphone looks similar to ATH-2 in cup and baffle construction.
yup, it's definitely an Ortho...

Another ortho to add to the Wiki
agreed, it's should add to the Ortho Wiki...

Can you get a photo that shows the voice coil through the fabric covering the driver? (it should shine through if you place it in front of a light source)

What's the size of the driver?
i'll help Troopers later, and make an comparasion that cans stock compare to ATH-2...maybe add another detail photo of the driver as well...

Troopers said the sound are not quite the same, well maybe cos he's buying ATH-2 (from me) not on the stock mode but had already been re-dampening (even he had recabling the ATH-2 right away after he receive it on the very 1st day)...that's why i'm gonna help him to clarify that wich is the same as ATH-2 stock (base on my memory) or not...so, wish me luck...

I need to recable my T20s, but there were very distinct differences. I traded off my T50s and kept the T20s. I used new pads on the T20s though and I know that smoothed out their sound and would soften the overly forward mids a bit. However, I preferred the sound of the T10 drivers over the T20s, so I bought the used mint pair off that other site for the same price as new T50s. In the T50s defense, I didn't try any new dampening schemes and I don't recall how they were damped when I received them; however, they were not stock. I will eventually add another set of T50s, but they'll be put into wood cups almost immediately, though it's a long term project plan as I have a lot of other projects in front of that one that I think will pay off higher dividends in sound quality, most revolving around SFI drivers.

OT, but I know there are many of us who are also AKG fans and my K240DFs from malldian arrived yesterday and his T50s arrived at his place too, so that was pretty cool. Anyways, the diffused field EQ gives the AKGs a signature that really falls in the middle between my Sextetts and my K601s, though the sound stage and highs are much closer to the K601s, but the bass is closer to the Sextetts. A really enjoyable dynamic headphone, and a great one for quiet listening levels. So much so, that last night I fell asleep in my chair while listening to Joshua Redman's latest album! I'm going to try the KT88 pads on them tonight and see how the sound changes.

I must say I rather enjoyed the 240DFs but I now have some EP's waiting for a headband and various parts (got extras laying around let me know). I am going to try some dampening but one of my friends liked them so much as is he wants to buy them! I will report back with listening impressions. I kind of realized that between my headphones on loan and current projects, if I give these away I won't have one working pair..

After kicking myself for forgetting to bid on the Realistic HP100 a week or so ago, I was adamant in purchasing a replacement pair in the hopes to solace my sorry self. I've just won myself my first pair of Orthodynamics, as such, with the Concept CE-H. Interestingly enough, they definitely have more in common with the Fostex branch than Yamaha of isodynamics, or so I read, which makes me wonder why Concept didn't adopt the term 'Regular Phase' instead.

Don't. The HP-100 isn't worth kicking yourself over, although if it can be had cheaply it's a good intro to 'stats.

I once wondered the same thing. Yes, they're rulebreakers, outlaws, mavericks. Let us know how they sound to you.

Somewhere Richard Schram is smiling.

Or should we say Team Grundig?

Let us know if the baffle on the CE-H is large enough to fit circumaural pads.

High five! Apparently it does look extremely similar to the 223, with variations in the cable and the headstrap. Possibly the venting, too; I can't tell from the picture. I wonder what connection Pacific Stereo had with Grundig.

Good to know, thanks. I did say I need another pair of headphones like I need a bullet in the head, but I'll qualify that statement and say that the last thing I need is another pair of mediocre-sounding headphones, which would be mildly akin to having a bullet placed in my cranium through means of some large force.

At least I finally get to say I own a pair of Orthodynamics. Sonic impressions will come sometime in the near future, very possibly followed by one or more impressions on damping schemes. If modding isn't necessary, I'll be darned.

Anyone have more info, especially on pricing, of the Audeze LCD1? And some pics of the custom drivers would be nice.

"Usable treble extension 50kHz"... nice.
IIRC, about $400. They specifically asked for no pictures of the custom driver, but the VC was a zig-zag shape, which went up and down the face of the diaphragm. Bar magnets on both sides of the drivers, and drivers and spacers seemed to be both PCB. Diaphgragm was a flex pcb (I specifically asked), though he insisted it wasnt mylar, and it didnt look like kapton to me. 6u diaphgragm, IIRC. Fairly high tension to the finger, non pleated and no funny shapes embossed or anything.
So is the first run spoken for? Are they gonna accommodate easy-mode mods? If I buy another new headphone, this is probably at or near the top of my list.

Cool, thanks. What did you think of the sound and modding potential, if it hasn't already been fully realized? And did you get a chance to compare with the Head-Direct ortho?

Both Audeze and Head-Direct are brave to undertake the (somewhat) mass production of these new orthos, but they've just developed their first proof-of-concept, if you will. Hopefully prices will go down and improvements will be made a couple of years down the line, which will make these new orthos a very easy pick over similar-cost dynamic counterparts, and above.

Edit:

Oh whoops, just found where the price was originally mentioned in this thread. Nice that they're willing to offer just the drivers, but $225 for a pair is still a bit too much for me, especially since it involves finding a suitable donor frame and then making it more suitable.

its so hard to choose
I see that you went with the ESL 63. Very good choice, easily the best of the three.

Well - my FIRST pair of Orthodynamics came in today (Sachu's Yamaha HP-2s)....and like, WOW - I'm in aural heaven, I had no idea that 30 year-old headphones such as these could sound SOOO Good. I'm currently listening to Beatles Love Album in wav format through my LD MK III and the tears of joy are welling up in my eyes. Sachu has done a marvelous job of modding these - perfectly damped and balanced. I am now officially Ortho-Hooked. And with a pair of Audio Technica ATH-ESW10JPN arriving tomorrow ans a pair of Grado HF-2s later in the month, it promises to be a super sonic summer!

... and a damn good album to go with it.
