Hi Jovita,
Have you been modding orthos too? Or were you speaking of something else.
We need the lurkers to post more of their impressions too!

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Yes. When doing the mod one has to remember that Wualta is right about bass loss through the pads. They need to be quite dense to preserve bass (if one has a bass-light can). This mod is especially good for orthos that have both weak bass and weak highs. Restoring the highs makes daping so much easier.

I've got addicted to the Grundig headstage. If I only could have louder deep bass as well....

I'm going to do some experimentation with the Dual, to see if it can be convinced to produce a more 3D headstage as well.
Converted to half-open-back, with no damping, the deepest bass is weakened. Headstage is a bit linear, but it was not good on the Grundig either without damping.

Thanks guys. Kabeer and I were also chatting yesterday about the effect a recable had on his too, so I'm planning a recable of my YH3s as well. Next week I'll peel the old pads and try the ESW9 pads on a small ring adapter (2mm middle ring, 1.5mm outer ring for the pad to allow a secure seal of the pad. There are so many things that are critical to the sound on these orthos. Pads, dampening, vibration, cable, and amps. Oh, and there is that little issue of personal tastes in sound signatures.

My changes last night were subtle and on the CR-620 I felt I lost too much high end for not enough gain in bass, but on the Audigy playing 256-320kbs MP3 and FLAC files, it was much better response, but the stage closed a bit. Odd too since before they generally sounded the same except less bass on the Audigy do to less current. The change I made was only to open two holes.

What? The HF-2 isn't even an ortho! It's an outrage, I tell you. .. So it would be cruel to have the moderator remove them, I suppose...

I think the mods are on it. This fool created a few accounts and was posting the same "bro thx 4sur gr8....2kul" stuff in multiple topics.

The bar is only 5 posts? Should have been 50. And before it was announced.

The requirements should be the same as for the "for sale" forum, but yes it's five posts on head-fi. I see more spam and multiple accounts created to get these as the good reviews start rolling in.

I commented about that as well. Apparently it is to increase membership and contribution from the "long time lurkers" around here. Seems like an open invitation for more spam.

hehe..I want mine too..so I can drown in my sorrows cause after what i listened to, I know I can never and i mean NEVER experience that again. Seriously, no ortho, dynamic or stupid stax can come close to the performance of the YH-1000 in the mids and the bass. Was such a treat.

So you better make that a keg to drown my sorrows in Kabeer.

Of course you were nuts. Still are. That's why you're here. But yes, you were lucky Don could be forced to do the repair at, as he so nicely puts it, guilt point.

More seriously, I'd still like to know what kind of corrosion that is and what caused it. Salt will corrode copper wire, but...

Wualta,

I believe you will see how it was caused when you receive the care package. Oh man are those Aiwas something else as well.
Bacially moisture gets to the driver due to the openness of the ear cups and over time it just corrodes over.
