Wow.

How did you find the bass response?

I have to say that my 11 year old DT880s are the only mid-tier headphones (well, sub $500 at least) that I've heard that can hold a candle to the Sennheiser IE800s for extension / tonality...

I wouldn't hold a candle to any expensive headphone myself. I don't think they're built for it.

Wow. With all those how come you managed to miss the sweet spot--DT880?

Just ordered a T51i from eBay... Absolutely LOVE the T51p that I got a chance to listen to (thanks finao1!!), and these should be more of the same. Beyer really has some fantastic headphones available these days...

Comes down to cost really, even the 880 pros are£200 I got the 990s for 80 on a warehouse deal. That's a big difference for a variation of the same phone

They sound totally different though, so you might as well consider them totally different headphones.

Joining the club with my Beyerdynamic 770 Manufaktur 32 ohm/

Different but not necessarily better.

DT990 and DT880 are on the same level, just different flavours. Little more than half a dozen years ago along with HD600/650 and RS1 they were the high end, Stax and other exotica apart. That you can get a headphone of the class of the DT990s (pros) so affordabley is amazing. Good sound will always be good sound.

I actually love the sound of my DT990s, As well as being cheaper, probably better suited to my music preferences, about 60% classic rock, mainly 70's progressive rock. I also think they sound fantastic with classical music, jazz, folk rock, almost anything really but especially with complex music due to their detail and vast soundstage. Enjoy the 440 just as much. Both these models are just very musical and fun, maybe more so than the more sterile DT880 ?

Beyer really have several sweet spots. I will probably get DT150s eventually, theyr'e just another classic Beyer. Don't feel the need to get DT880 at the moment.

Each to their own.

Cheers

The DT880 is technically more accurate, however. That's not subjective.

I never said the 880 was better than the 990. I actually prefer the 990 over the 880 and 770 both. I've only owned the 880 250 ohm and 770's 80 Ohm and 600 ohm, someday I'll grab a 990.

As for now though, I'm waiting on my T1 to arrive on the 20th biggrin.gif

Sorry if there was some misunderstanding

Congratulations on acquiring the T1.  I'd love to try those one day, or at least one of the Teslas..

"Just ordered a T51i from eBay... " Theogenes - Hope you get lots of enjoyment from the T51. I'm at the office listening to mine as I type. Let us know your impressions/comparisons re: the T5P when you get them back.

Hey buddy,

What do you think of the bass on the T1? I know it's not a basshead phone, neither is my HD700.  But the HD700 has plenty of bass fed off my vintage amps.  T1 looks like a heckuva can!
