hello, I'm in a getto mode today, and i was wondering to make my mini interconnect cable (1/8" plug - 1/8" plug) could i use the wires from a usb extension cable? i would use cat5 but i dont feel like destroying my internet connection

there are four wires in there so you could if you wanted though there are cheaper alternatives that will produce sound with equal or greater quality... got any old computer power cords? they have 3 wire in them that you can use and their cheaper than usb cords

Usb cables have 4 wires, +5V, data, data, and GND in that order. computer power cords (as in the ones that go from the wall to your PSU have 3, positive negative and ground.

for audio cable if you are making a mini to mini cable you only need 3 wires. Right left and ground. lets say that the 3 wires in your cord are red blue and white. strip both ends and solder the white wire to the ground pin on whatever connector you use, connect the red wire to the right channel pin and the blue to the left channel pin. then simply repeat on the opposite side (making sure you use the same color wire for the same connectors)

nope purely user preference... use whatever wires you want aslong as they match up at both ends

cat 5 will sound better than a usb or power cord because its solid wires and shielded, but that being said it will not be very portable because solid conducters will break if flexed too much too often.

as far as sound quality goes, neither is going to be amazing but i think Cat5 will sound better. of coures the connectors used and the soldering job will also factor in.

if you need anything else feel free to PM me or even IM me
