Best Laptop/Notebook under $1300?

Thread Starter
I am looking for a solid laptop/notebook thats no more than $1300, but has an UXGA or better screen, solid battery life, and has all the typical functions/programs to use for business and pleasure.

Does anyone know the best notebook?

Is Dell Inspiron 9300 good? Is there a better model out there for the price?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I would check out the offerings at: http://discountlaptops.com/ and see what's in your price range.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite M45 with a 1.8GHz Centrino for around that price. It has a 15" wide, bright screen, 80GB hard drive, DVD writer and 512MB of RAM. It's pretty fast and nicely equipped. I'm happy with it.

There's a freely-available coupon for Lenovo (which aren't always the most multimedia-rich, but have excellent build quality). Browse to Lenovo - Contractor Purchase Program and use the password 'familyandfriends'.

Lenovo Thinkpad (T, X, or W series), HP Elitebook/Business, or Dell Latitude are the way to go.

I would take a look at the Lenovo T500 or W500. The only difference between the two is that the latter comes with ATI Firepro graphics for CAD/3D content creation etc and has twice the video RAM.

They're fully configurable but here's the basic specs:
  • 15.4" display, 3 resolution choices
  • Core 2 Duo CPU
  • DDR3 RAM
  • Hybrid switchable graphics (integrated for power saving, discrete for significantly more processing power)
  • "Rollcage"- a magnesium framework running throughout the laptop, makes it basically indestructable
  • Motion sensor that parks the hard disk heads when the laptop is falling to save your data
  • Can be launched from a trebuchet and keep your data intact
  • Customizable options like a webcam, fingerprint reader, 3G wireless

Plus their warranty service is INCREDIBLE. I called them on a Tuesday afternoon and explained that I had some graphical glitches on my W500. Within 15 minutes of dialing they were overnighting a box to me to ship it back. They replaced the motherboard the same day they received it and I had it back that Friday. It isn't possible to have a better turnaround using paid overnight shipping all ways.

You are aware that you bumped a 4-year-old thread, right?

I'm just looking at BigD's reccommendation, and its scary how you can now get more than double the laptop for about a third of the cost.
