random quick question: Do you use grills on your speakers? - Page 2

Many older speakers actually sound better with the grilles on, since there's a more seperated signal feed from the crossover from tweeter to woofer, so the grilles muffle that intensity a little bit.

I prefer them removed.

My Infinity speakers run grill-less.
I used to keep the grills on them all the time. Then the grandchildren moved out of town, so ...........................

Grills on here.
My speakers were exactly "voiced" with the grills on and it's specifically stated that they are to be used that way. Of course I tried them without but I felt so disobedient and dirty!

I run all speakers with no grill cloths.......look better, sound better.

If you have pets or small children cloths may be mandatory to prevent unwanted accidental damage to speakers however.

The grilles on my speakers remove themselves after a day or two. There are 4 little rubber things that hold it in place and I guess some are loose. Rather than replacing them for less than $1 (can't imagine they'd cost more), they said I have to RMA the whole set (what a waste). I'd hate to pay for shipping as it is extremely heavy, so I guess no grilles for me...

I leave them on solely for protection..replacing/refitting speaker cloth onto grilles is inexpensive; replacing drivers is not .

Am in same boat as you. I have a Klipsch Promedia 4.1 setup for my PC, and with grills removed they are unbearable at very high volumes when listening to techno or various other electronica. It's like the tweeter was designed to cause you pain.

Yet with grills they sound alright.

As for floorstanders, luckily mine dont have overpowering tweeters, so I can listen to them without the grills, wich is a great thing, since they look so much better that way

LOL, if I used grilles, they'd probably vibrate off.

Besides that, the speakers look better without them.

Hahaha. I have Paradigm Referernce Studio 40's and I think they sound a little better without the grilles. But I always have them on because I am lazy.

Built my speakers w/o grills in mind Saves me the hassle and sounds better too.

cost me $80 to replace the tweeter which dome was made of aluminum foil, which is extremely vulnerable and permanent to damage. after that i leave my grills on.
